Title: PSPUAE Progress Update
Post by: FOL on March 21, 2007, 02:15:02 PM
Thought I would post and let you know what we are up to.

Right, as you are all proberly aware, we have new BetaTester's and they are already doing an awesome job. Only been a week and they are very efficient and picking on every little detail, this is helping us alot.

Currently, there are 4 0.63 ME Beta builds, 0.63 ME is still being extensively worked on by Thinkp.
Ric has now turned his attention to the HardDrive support (im not sure how its going).

As for the rest of us, I have been trying different things with the source, while gnostic has been optimising the code.

We also have a new coder that has joined us, cmf. He has been working on the memory code and has done a good job on getting 10 Meg usable memory, but he is currently still working on some issues with it.

I also added the full spectrum of CPU 2 CHIPSET options, so you can adjust the speed much more finely when using chipset option. Also fixed the bug that caused pspuae to crash if no menu background pic was found and you turned the option "OFF".

I have managed to get a very nice speed increase (Added a few defines for compiling pspuae), and with an added bonus (there is no slowdown when using CHIPSET setting, it seems to run much more smoothly.
Testing using Xenon 2, Turrican 2, Jaguar XJ220, all of which were almost perfect. Even Bubble Bobble runs very nice on FrameSkip 1. A small amount even ran fine on FrameSkip 0, all tested with full 4CH sound.

While gnostic is optimising the code, he is also looking at a way to limit the FPS to 50, instead of auto frameskip, as due to the recent speed increase most things are running too fast.

So its looking quite promising, we could be ready for a release quite soon.

Just Fantastic to hear!! it will be fantastic to play IK+, Barbarian II, Lemmings I, Lemmings II, Pinball Dreams, Pinball Fantasies, Turrican I, Turrican II and all the other games at a more decent speed.. The CE was great but if there will be 0-2 FS instead of 2-5 FS the games will be fantastic to play :D

Keep the PSPUAE alive! :)

Thanx!!!!

no, its still being worked on, so doubt it will make this release. Hang in there thought, it will happen. For now you can try mine and horaces custom WHDLOAD Save States, ;). You can grab them in the downloads section, if a game aint there you want, then PM me, and I make 1.

ok, thanx! i mean if the speed is up and we can skip the loadingtimes for the games this will be _the_ killer emulator ;)

hope the speedprogress will be great with the ME support :)

ME is also still being worked on and that proberly wont make this release, but the loading times with using custom made states is good, some games you need to set CPU to MAX, then switch it back to CHIPSET after they finish loading, as using CHIPSET can slow the loading times down alot.

Currently, for this up and comming release,
We have gained some speed, mainly on the CHIPSET side of things,
Ive added full range of CPU2CHIPSET options,
Cmf has rewrote the memory code (so now you can use 10 Megs without problems),
Cmf has also made a windows app to convert all pre 0.63 release Savestate's to new memory code,
A few bugs are fixed from last release,
Gnostic has some optimisations that need adding and he is also working on CPU2CHIPSET balancer (which wont make this release).

Will post more news, soon

Well its still not perfect, but better. I believe IF we can achieve full speed, then the sound would be ok.
