Title: Installing ClassicWB OS39
Post by: Kitty on January 19, 2010, 11:35:53 AM
I really want to install OS3.9 with ClassicWB but the install instructions are (for me) very daunting :(

Quote from: ClassicWB Webpage
In order to use this Workbench, you MUST follow the install procedure provided.
You'll need a valid OS 3.9 install updated with Boing Bags 1 and 2, without one this pack will fail.

Required

    * Emulator to run the HDF provided (WinUAE is assumed) (have)
    * 3.1 ROM (have)
    * OS 3.9 HDF install with official BoingBags 1 and 2 (Please read this guide) don't have!

What I do have is an ISO of 3.9 but I dont have the Amiga Boing Bag packs 1 & 2 also I noticed on eab theres now a Boing Bag pack3??

Now on the ClassicWB website theres a guide at http://thomas-rapp.homepage.t-online.de/os39uae.html, this guide totally confused me and I was lost after that and gave up.

Has anyone got OS 3.9 HDF install with official BoingBags 1 and 2 ready made so I could just download them rather than trying to create them from my 3.9 iso, anyone who can possibly do this for me will have my eternal grattitude and I will bow down to them at least once a day lol ;)

Awwwman, kitty.

You should'nt be doing this here. You are talking about piracy (ISO = COPY).
I cant help you as OS3.9 is still sold, and your putting me in an awkward situation.
Im sure if you asked this on any Amiga forum, they would eat you alive.

well if its any consideration I made the iso backup from an original os 3.9 I actually paid for and own myself, but yeah I understand what your saying, sorry :(
dunno where I am going to get help for this then if its a grey area on most forums :(

Hmm.. a grey area indeed.

I still own a copy of OS3.5 , and my WB disks... would it be wrong for me to discuss installing them for emulator usage?

Are BoingBags 1 and 2 sold products of Public Domain add-ons?

ok, FOL and I have discussed this.

No HDF of 3.9 with BoingBags can be provided due to the obvious copyright restrictions. However, as you have your own copy, and i am informed Boing Bags are free, FOL is going to dig you out some links for those.

Installation shoul dbe fairly simple from there no, if you have a guide already?

I'll write my own guide to creating a OS39 HDF soon, just too lazy at the moment. Thomas' seems complicated because he is installing without using a 3.1 HDF; his method uses the emergency disk.

I'm assuming you have some basic WinUAE skills now, if not read the green amiga alien's guide.

Take any Workbench 3.1 HDF, even a ClassicWB HDF will do once activated using 3.1 disks (or create one from scratch with the Workbench 3.1 set as outlined in Paul's Green Alien Guide).

Since you have an ISO, install Virtual Clone drive: http://www.slysoft.com/en/virtual-clonedrive.html. Mount the OS3.9 iso that you made from your original CD using clone drive. If you want to use your original CD, skip this step.

In WinUAE, add your Workbench 3.1.HDF as DH0: which you will boot from.

Add the OS3.9 CD/mounted-ISO as a hard drive directory in WinUAE. So the path will be to your vitual or actual CD/DVD drive, say D: for example. Thomas says make sure the backslash is removed, so it's D: NOT D:/. Not sure why but I'll go with him on this. Make sure it's volume label is called "AmigaOS3.9". The device label can be called CD0:, not that it matters. Workbench will use this hard drive directory like a CD drive. :)

Boot into Workbench 3.1, open up CD0:/AmigaOS39 drawer and double click install.

Follow the instructions and overwrite all files. Finally install BB1 and BB2 provided above. You will need to keep the CD0:/AmigaOS39 mounted as BB2 checks it for a code to install.

Did you get around to giving this another go Kitty?

FOL said it's not to bad using the above method.
