Nice, will check it out once i get home. Be interesting to see what the compatability is like with the fox FAME C core, as we have an early alpha but its not very compatible.
Nice to see another Amiga emu out there, :). More choice for everyone.
Might as well say now (was waiting for chilly to get back to me), he is close an alpha (for testing). Then the betatesters can start reporting and the emu improved from there until we are ready for a new release.
You must have been excited, as this doesnt look like a game cheat to me, ;). Im in the same boat, im in work to, wont be home til after 6 PM, :(. Also, you beat everyone to posting this, lol, cant find it on any of the usual sites.

Yep sorry about that. I'm at work and had 5mins to check the other site and then post the info on here. lol
-
i test this whit fire & ice .after to 3~ min it start the game whit full speed and good sound!
after to 10 sec the game crashed and screen scrap ,and my happy going to .. :D
Deluxe galaga also not runing..
thing not has good compatibility ..
-
Well its sounds like its a good first effort from ttyman. ...plus its great to hear that the sound is almost perfect with the new fox FAME C core
I'm hoping Rodland works well with sound?
My prediction of good things to come emulation wise from amiga psp emu's already looks justified. ;D
Now we've got a taste of things to come I can't wait for the official PSPUAE build. :)
-
"full speed" but "requires frameskip" ? hmmm.
looks good though, although massively lacking on the functions, (and according to Anemos some compatibilty issues) i'm sure this will be improved over time. i'll be giving it a proper trial later and will no doubt bring some harsh reality-checks with me as usual! (if PSPUAE has to suffer my critique, i see no reason why this shouldnt too!)
also, baboon, i altered the title. the caps were a bit excessive, and i think we'd rather think of this as an "alternative" rather than a "rival" - all Amiga emulation developments are welcomed in this camp.
-
i'm probably going to get shot-down for "daring" to say anything against this emulator....
but hey you know me ;)
Speed yes it's faster than PSPUAE, but not by as much as you might think. Try something that knowingly slows down PSPUAE and you will see what i mean. SWOS and New Zealand Story are great examples, as the former still requires some hefty (mostly above 2) frameskiping whilst the latter remains completely unplayable from slowdown. Speedball 2 was notably improved but still jerky when things got busy. Im sure it flies on the less intensive games, although my faveourite test for this (IK+) wouldnt run. "Cult Classic" Wipe-Out played rather well, but the frame-skip was still around the 1-2 mark.
With no FPS counter, its of course hard to tell an accurate comparission between the two, but i'm pretty confident about my judgement here. Don't be expecting to play Frontier in a hurry, but you will get a better sound-to-speed quality across the overall board.
Sound, yes this is excellent. Actually this is -the- strongest point of the emulator by far, and since the source code is avaiaible perhaps Chilly and FOL should really look into what's going on here. Especially give that the sound code for all the spec's E-UAE can do should be identical. (since all Amiga's just rely on Paula) - it does sound like sometimes it's pitched down, although perhaps the sound-code here responds by doing that when slow instead of crackling (pitch-down is a preferable side-effect if you ask me though) .... actually this seems to be a result of the throttle - which is probably just a fancy name for CPU-Chipset ratio is it not?
Compatibility, well here is an interesting one... Not perfect, but we already knew FAME/C was like that from our own tests anyway. Speedball 2 managed to completly crash the PSP on some versions, but i did find a copy that worked, and it's overall compatibility is still pretty good considering. Not PSPUAE standards, but pretty ok for an A500 only emulator, although IK+ not running (at least not the "most compatible" copy that i have) is pretty poor. i was plesantly surprised the SWOS career mode worked however.
Input functionality and Save-states remain completely missing, but these are the kind of things i'd expect missing from a first release, nothing too much to worry about here providing development continues - however it does make the emualtor pretty useless to me atm without. (no bloodwych for starters) - Keyboard and joystick mapping are a "must" i'm afraid on a device like the PSP - and of course, this in turn will mean that load / save configs will be needed - i dont really see this being to difficult for the developer to implement however.
GUI - nice scrolling background, ugly Atari-ST looking font, and why cant i turn the music off??
A very nice proof-of-concept, and one-in-the-eye for all those who thought PSP-Amiga emulation was dead and buried. Release 2 asap please.
-
Ok, I do not post here very often it seems - I am more of an interested reader at the moment, but I want to make a statement here:
DO work together. This is -the- chance to finally create the near perfect portable Amiga.
Some already said it and I just want to make it clear that there should be no competition here and I know that a serious developer sees fellow coders working on similar projects as a fine oppurtunity to improve - for both ;) Im looking forward to a combination of the amazing compatibility of PSPUAE and the fluid sound of UAE4ALL. Well I do know that the coders of PSPUAE would get this right, I just hope the coders of the other project will see the possibilities, too ;)
Interesting times ahead :)
-
This is really interesting news, fingers crossed a collaboration might be on the way. Also, great news that a new PSPUAE beta is on the way ! technolicious !
-
I wait for PSPUae new release. On this emulator i run only 5 games :(((
-
I think it has something to do with the FAMEC core. As we found (thats why we never released our PSPUAE FAMEC version), its not as compatible and causes the PSP to crash randomly. I get the same problem when inserting adf's, sometimes it crashes, i reload then it works.
Sound is better, although the pitch doesnt sound right on a few games i have tried.
-
i cant get it to work. my kickstart rom is 512.. to bad i would like to try this emu out. its nice to see 2 great amiga emus for the psp! =)
-
got it to work and it works really well! it is not fullspeed or something like that but with FS 1-2 there is no slowdowns =)
i think pspuae soon should get this speed to, perhaps on the next release ;)

I guess the stabillity will get sorted out on future updates. On his previous builds of Mame4all on the PSP there were loads of memory leak problems when playing certain roms which made the PSP lockup and crash. These memory probs were later addressed and ironed out of the latest build of mame4all so I guess something similar (hopefuly) will happen in time with his Amiga emu?
tbe trouble is, the root problems of the compatibilty are not in the emulator implementation itself (the bulk of TTyman's work) but rather in the use of the 68000 FAME/C core, which lacks the accuracy of the standard UAE core which is so vital to making PSPUAE (and other UAE versions) work so readily.
I dont know TTyman's history, but unless he's got some background in the workings of the 68000 processor, he's going to have a very tough time cleaning up the core to boost UAE4ALL's problem's here. This is why i'm so happy we have ChillyWilly - given his origins in 68k specific coding.
-
I have no idea of what his history is, I'm just going by what he achieved with mame4all on the psp where previously everyone either failed or didn't want to take up the challenge (well excpet NJ and his excllent CPS and MVS emu's). I apreciate the Amiga is a completly different and complex beast to emulate though.
ChillyWilly already has a proven track record on the PSP, and as you say also has his roots in 68k coding, so it sounds like good times are truly ahead with UAE on the PSP. :)
I just think its great that we've just started '08 and now we've got two Amiga emu's being worked on.
Good times. ;D
-
I managed to disable the (imho annoying) LEDs, so the full height of the PSP can be used for drawing the graphics.
I made 3 new EBOOT.PBP:
1.) resolution 464x256 (full Amiga height => Pinball Dreams) without LEDs
2.) resolution 384x216 (Turrican & Turrican II exact height) without LEDs
3.) resolution 320x200 (fullscreen for most other Amiga games) without LEDs
Note that 3) is slightly widestretched, but draws the full screen of your PSP (should work great with Beast, Paradroid 90, Lotus, Speedball 2, etc.)

3 versions for different game?
hmm... he really should just add some options - hold back on releases if need be. it's hardly the most elegant solution :-\

There was already a port of UAE4ALL (None FAME C) on psp, gnostic ported it before FAMEC came along (It was never released).
Currently on the server are both a FAME C and ME version of PSPUAE, FAME C version is hitting the compatiblity issues your experiencing. The ME version showed no speed improvement compared to current PSPUAE 063, but that was implemented when not much was known about the Media Engine.
Its nice to see the Amiga still has a following, and i would love for TTYman to come and chat to us here. As we did with gnostic (sadly gnostic's psp was stolen), we helped each other with the different Miggy Emulators.

Have a look to see if it will take config files, if so, that might be an easier way to setup emu. PSPUAE will load inbuilt config, but if a config file is present, then it will override inbuilt config. Im not sure on what PSP_UAE4ALL has for config, aint really look at source properly.
-
:o why not post that where the developer of UAE4ALL might see it rather than here?
p.s. i dont believe anything is "perfect" on it. Even TTYman admits frameskip is needed.

No, config files aren't yet supported (except for that "colors.txt"...). I could implement that myself - but I don't have the time to do that (I have no experience developing for PSP).

CONTROL MOD:
Implemented some keystrokes (Return, Space, F1, 1 and Alt), changed the position of the firebuttons and activated the d-pad as joy-input.
d-pad: move joystick + move mouse
analog stick: move joystick
square button: fire
cross button: joystick up (jump) + left mouse button
circle button: fire 2 + right mouse button
triangle: space
L-trigger: F1 and 1
R-trigger: ALT (=> grenade in Turrican I)
R+L (keep pressed): speedx10 + sound off
START: Return (Enter)
Grab the once more changed EBOOTS (resolution 320x200 and 384x216) here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/85786754/PSPUAE4All_control_and_resolution_mod.zip.html (http://rapidshare.com/files/85786754/PSPUAE4All_control_and_resolution_mod.zip.html)
or here:
http://www.megaupload.com/de/?d=2LA1JOPN (http://www.megaupload.com/de/?d=2LA1JOPN)
P.S. Use the keystrokes (ALT, F1) sparingly, because they have a kinda high repeat-rate and may sometimes lead to lockups.

Guys, please stop posting these compatability lists. I let it go this long, it would be better if its posted at the authors site.
Dont take my comment the wrong way, its just he has asked for the feedback on his blog.

Thanks very much for this. Now finaly games like Battle Chess and Stunt Car Racer will be playable now that you can use those keys! :)
@ John4p: Is there any chance you could do a version that makes use of the left 'shift' key? I'm pretty sure in 'North & South' you need the left shift key to select your different army characters while in battle?

and please dont say that any game runs perfect on this emulator. i havent played any game yet with 0 FS on this thing yet (been testing for about 30-40 games) and therefor no game is perfect emulated. most of the games need 2-3 FS to be fullspeed.

my thoughts entirely, though i wold say 1-2 for most, which isnt much different to PSPUAE if you get the options right... just the difference in sound quality.
-
Implemented NEW CONTROLS and VERTICAL ADJUSTMENT, so you can now (R-Trigger + dpad up/down) move the screen up/down and thus play for example Stunt Car Racer in 320x200 mode fullscreen and fullspeed with perfect sound!
NEW PSPUAE4All CONTROLS:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
analog joy movement
dpad joy movement + mouse movement
[] firebutton
/\ SPACE
O firebutton2 + right mouse button
Since baboon requested it: I replaced "left Shift" with "right Shift" in the control scheme, because right Shift is used in "North and South" to switch your unit type. Now just use R-Trigger+Cross-button to switch unit-type in North and South.
Finally implemented ANALOG MOUSE control:
The mouse pointer moves faster the further you move the PSP's analog nub. If you hold the R-Trigger the mouse pointer moves even faster.
So per default the analog is mouse and the dpad is the joystick now.
You can swap these by pressing "Start + []" to have dpad as mouse and analog as joystick again.
Overall there are now 5 different control modes:
1) Default Control (activate with "R-Trigger + Select"
or "Start + X")
2) Dpad Mouse & Analog Joystick - Control ("Start + []")
3) Alphabet Input Control ("L-Trigger + Select")
4) Pinball Dreams and Numeric Input - Control ("Start + O")
5) Dpad = Numpad 4, 8, 6, 2 and analog mouse - Control ("Start + /\")
"Alphabet Input Control" has all 26 letters of the alphabet.
"Pinball Dreams and Numeric Input - Control" has the numbers 0-9.
I created EBOOTs for the resolutions 320x200, 384x216, 414x240 and 480x272.
This time they are available as KERNEL and USERMODE builds:
Finally implemented ANALOG MOUSE control:
PM for ya fella.
I created EBOOTs for the resolutions 320x200, 384x216, 414x240 and 480x272.
In 480x272 and 414x240 can you fit screen to center screen and add black border ??? and add save state for games ???
-
Don't think I'm able to implement save states (but you can save in games that allow this, like WINGS).
About the horizontal centering I'll have a look at the weekend...
-
Great... but you can implement keybord like as PSPUAE with all keys ??? and remeber implement black borders on center screen... Thanks for interesting... :-*
FOL gave me the tip to set a certain parameter to 1 (instead of 512) - which gave PSPUAE a slight speed increase last year when they were testing the FAME/C core.
I rebuilt the current version with this change. I compared Turrican II running on the current version and with this new one but couldn't really see a difference. But he said it would bring only a minor speed increase anyway - so it's hard to notice without a fps-counter.
Download this alternate version here if you want to compare it yourself (320x200 resolution KERNEL BUILD):
http://rapidshare.com/files/88122822/EBOOT.PBP.html (http://rapidshare.com/files/88122822/EBOOT.PBP.html)
edit: nothing changed in this version - no need to download...
-
Now I know why I didn't feel any difference: I forgot to delete some prebuilt files before rebuilding. Tested it again and: there is a speed increase!!!!
Okay, it's really only a very slightly speed increase and some maybe won't even feel any improvement at all, but there's more to it:
Paradroid 90, one of my favorite games of all times, always locked up after a couple of "droid-control-battles". Not anymore! With this new version, I played for 30 minutes and had no problems (it always crashed after a few minutes with the old version - and I've tried it about 20 times...).
So probably this version is also more stable!
Thanks a lot, FOL!
Downloading now! :)
@John4p:
For some reason your new user mode eboots do not work on my psp. I've tried them all and it just keeps quiting out with an eror code '80020148'?
I haven't got the kernel add on on my psp so I cant test the kernel builds. I've tried ttymans user mode eboots again and they work fine??
edit: I've just tried you previous user mode eboot 'PSPUAE4All_analogmouse_ctrlmod_vadjust_usermode.zip' and that works fine, so I guess thiere is a problem with the way you've compiled the new usermode eboots?
Oh and by the way on testing this on the new 3.90 M33 that has literaly just been released on DAX's site.
-
Oh joy, and i cant network update, its clogged up, lmao
-
Yep its been busy for a bit. lol I managed to update a while ago though.
I'm now using joh4p's kernel build and that works fine. :)
this is fantastic! hopefully FOL and some other guys can join up and help with this emu. it is fantastic for us pspusers that there is 2 amiga emulators now! hopefully one of them will reach fullspeed one day =)
thanx for all hard work!
Which John PSP UAE4ALL mod should I download, theres too many, it's confusing?
Thats unless if he puts them into 1 Zip or something.
Just get the last I've upped if your cfw supports kernel builds (the usermode builds were reported as non-functional).
How about making them an option, and use a key combo to cycle through them, saves having all the eboots.
So (example) Left Trigger + Triangle, alters screen res to 320x200, then another press 384x216, etc etc. Or how about adapting rics autozoom from pspuae?.
How about making them an option, and use a key combo to cycle through them, saves having all the eboots.
So (example) Left Trigger + Triangle, alters screen res to 320x200, then another press 384x216, etc etc. Or how about adapting rics autozoom from pspuae?.
Are you guys actually collaborating now to tweak this other emu? Or you are you just handing out top advice from your Amiga builds Fol?
The latter, I to have been messing with uae4all and our famec version. I have our famec up to the same speed as our current 063 release, uploaded 2 versions for testing lastnight. The only problem is, pspuae is ment to be an all round amiga emulator (emulates all amiga models), so its harder to get it running smooth. uae4all doesnt have this problem, as its build from the ground up with 1 thing in mind, emulating 1 amiga model the A500.
I have given john our famec source, and hopefully he can add rics CPU 2 Chipset option, as that might give a speed increase as it does in pspuae famec. Really need to speak to ttyman, as all these changes are no good, if he is already working on them, :).
Yes, of course that would be much better. Just takes time (which I currently don't have much of). I will definitely implement that in the near future if TTYman's next release doesn't pop up all of a sudden...
Ah cool thanks for the info Fol. ;D
I thought I'd post this message I got from TTYman the other week. I emailed him to say congrats on his mame4all and more recently the amiga release's and this is what he replied:
--------------------------
Well,
what I can tell you is only thanks! But not only this. Yesterday Franxis and I
spoken about next mame release, as he is working on 0.37b5 version now. The bad
news are much work must be done to have a so fast one as latest 5.1 version. May
be march, as he told me, but as I, he and others friends of us in this project
work in real life, time isn't so much as last august-october. I'm very pleased
of so much people entusiasm about latest uae4all: I got working it in november
but busy projects at my new work give out all free time. May be now, and for
next weeks this can change.
Ciao,
Giuseppe
--------------------------
It looks like he's busy with his new full time job and can only code when he gets the spare time now. I'm quite excited that TTyman and Franxis will be sorting out a new mame build... but more to point of this thread he will be working on the amiga again (although it doesn't look like this will be anytime soon).
Thought I'd share it with you guys.
Ta :)
Just get the last I've upped if your cfw supports kernel builds (the usermode builds were reported as non-functional).
So famec is the codename for PSPUAE 064?
If yes, I can't find the download anywhere, is it at a beta stage currently or something, which is what FOL is talking about in chat?
what?? where did you get that 'codename' stuff from? fame/c is the 68000 core used by uae4all, which has also previously been used with pspuae betas. FOL is trying again at implementing it into PSPUAE.
and no, you cant download te famec version, as it's a private beta. if you read FOL's shoutbox (not chat) post, you will see he addresses 'testers' and not 'everyone' ;)
p.s. FOL - i dont understand why you have put the release post at the start of the compatibilty thread?
Simple, I wouldnt allow me to split from first post, ;).
Also, horace is correct, my post was aimed at the beta testers.
Ok, thats cool.
I don't get why you never release betas public like WINUAE does, you would get much more feedback on the gliches and crap. Thats just my opinion though, well that direction works well for WINUAE as an exclusive to eab guys, so maybe you should make the switch to public in the future too as an exclusive to PSPUAE Forums?
Maybe, but will decide when chilly has the rebuild done.
-
I like the idea of public betas. ;D ...but then I'm just impatient. lol
TTymans build has had loads of useful feedback from the public (myself, delta191, Costaud etc have all been on a right mission with compatibility of games plus John4p has released some awesome config/screen mods etc). Surely having it tested by the masses (with all the enthusiasm you'd get from all the amiga fans out there) in the future would be a good thing? ...I know fol has previously stated on this site that some of the past 'private' beta testers have done a crap job and not really contributed much.
Anyway - looking forward to the next build from you guys. Good luck. :)
I have pm'ed you, with info on what im doing now.
Hi,
I'm just used the PSP UAE4ALL r1 playing Exile and it does run and sound better than the latest PSPUAE emulator, but does lack the rich features of PSPUAE and games seem to load and not load. I imagine PSP UAE4ALL r2 died as R1 it's over a year now I think?
I think I read somewhere the PSP UAE4ALL r1 uses fame/c is there a version or option in PSPUAE where we can use this option in some games, this would be great?
I guess the Amiga is very hard to emulate with the PSP's hardware, I've heard there are more powerful handheld's called the GP2X-Wiz and Pandora, but am not sure if they do Amiga emulation.
Keep up the good work, the Amiga deserves it :)
ermmmm, have you looked in the downloads section. I released PSPUAE FAMEC before christmas, just to show it can be faster than PSPUAE4ALL. PSPUAE only lacks in the sound department.
Check the downloads, already released a famec version. Which is superior in every way bar sound.
Hi,
I'm so excited by your reply I can't type! I have 0.72 but it does say FE after, so to the downloads I go!
Update: I now have it installed, but can't get my first game to work which is Exile (2 disks). Do the save states for from your site work on this version as they were made on 0.62? I load the Exile config > load teh 2 disks for Exile > select the Exile save state > PSP reboots.
Turrican save state has issues too for me :( (probably me only)
Read the description, old 0.72 states will not work on this version.
FAMEC although faster, sucks, its very unstable. Thats why I left it on my server for well over a year doing nothing. Its hit and miss on games it will run.
-
Think I will stick to 0.72, I couldn't get many games to work (Exile, Chaos Engine). Plus the save states are the main thing for me as you can spend hours getting the game just right and run out of time to even play :)
Savestates work on 0.72 FE, but you can use old 1's, you have to make new 1's.
Now I know why I didn't feel any difference: I forgot to delete some prebuilt files before rebuilding. Tested it again and: there is a speed increase!!!!
Okay, it's really only a very slightly speed increase and some maybe won't even feel any improvement at all, but there's more to it:
Paradroid 90, one of my favorite games of all times, always locked up after a couple of "droid-control-battles". Not anymore! With this new version, I played for 30 minutes and had no problems (it always crashed after a few minutes with the old version - and I've tried it about 20 times...).
So probably this version is also more stable!
Thanks a lot, FOL!
The rapidshare one is broken and well... Megaupload is not among us anymore. :-\ I've looked everywhere like crazy and didn't found it. Does anyone still have it??? ;D
YES, THIS IS IT! But it doesn't work. All i get is a black screen, then my psp just turns off. Strange, the "r1 version" worked fine. :'(
On a PSP 2001 with CFW 6.60 PRO-C2, if that's what you mean. I tried the other kicks I had here with no luck. Tried to take the old folder with the r1 version and just replaced the eboot with the new one too. Still, no luck.
I've got it working! I just changed the firmware from 6.60 PRO C2 to 6.60 LME 1.8. The controls are amazing now and the performance is just as good. The only problem is that these two files that you provided me are in the wrong resolutions. (at least for playing Turrican II, wich is what I am looking forward to)
The 480x272 one is too small and the 320x200 is too big, I don't know what's up with that. There were other two resolutions available for this emulator, do you have them too? :3
If they are not in downloads section then no.
You may be able to use the Wayback Machine to see if you can get them.
