Title: PS3 UAE
Post by: Hungry Horace on January 16, 2009, 04:41:34 PM
Wii owners were so please to get a crappy UAE4ALL based emulator....

what a shame they dont have a machine that can run a superior emulator straight out of the box.....  ;D

indeed, running excellently!

the 'logo' is the equivalent of the linux "start bar", unfortunately, as i am using such a low-resolution on my SDTV, i can only "fake" fullscreen by expanding the window with the maximise button. This leaves the linux-dock-thingey lurking in the top-left corner.

when i get my HDTV on Monday, i expect this problem to be solved  :D

That does look quality Horrace!  ;D  ...finaly a decent reason to boot up the ps3.  ;)

Oh and it may not be 'straight out of the box' (where is all the fun with that though?) but V.I.CE is running perfect via linux on the wii (amongst many other apps) so one would asume that uae would also run well too on the wii if you can be bothered to install it....

I think Horace is happy with his investment lol  ;)

I like the "not on on HD TV YET" comment, I think we know what your next purchase could be, sounded rather conclusive lol  ;D

I must ask horace, would it be able to run my collection of ADF's or is it for HD installs only? you know I'm rather fond of the old slow simple method.

I very much doubt it would have the power to run E-UAE on top of Linux on the Wii very well (i'm sure it will run, but without frameskip?) Vice is one thing, E-UAE is completely different, and isnt like UAE4ALL where it's streamlined. E-UAE  (as i'm sure FOL can vouch) is quite bulky on its overheads.

I would like to be proved wrong however.

and the 'fun' of running straight out of the box is that Sony lets you do this ;)  No hacks to be blocked / patched up, no waiting around while for developers to switch between one console or another....

I'm sure certain corners will carry on slating the PS3 all over the web... but they are fools to do so. I have loads of reasons to boot my PS3, and do so every day.

I think Horace is happy with his investment lol  ;)

since i didnt pay a penny for my PS3, it's a great investment.  8)

of course the ADFs are possible. You know me, i just dont like the speed of ADFs, but there is a video of Turrican  (on ADF) running on E-UAE up on YouTube (in fact, i've made video a response to it) ... for whatever reason it doesnt seem to be running as well as m setup though  8)  perhaps the new YDL6.1 has more tweeks for the PS3, i dont know.

I've added lots of info to the video, and i'll probably make some more today.

When I get time, I will install E-UAE on linux and test it out on the Wii.

If the PS3 runs my collection of ADF's at fullspeed and fullscreen on HD TV, I'd have to take things seriously  :o

PS3 games and full amiga games collection sounds nice, It would be tempting!  8)

i have LBP but havent really got into it yet. it's ok i guess. Not bothered abut Fallout 3 tbh.

I got GTAIV on saturday and keep playing that, it's as good as ever. FIFA is great and is back to its roots (it's stopped trying to be PES and realised it was better than PES all along anyway) and Star Wars: Force Unleashed is great cheap entertainment for a single player game.

Linux and tbe whole media centre (streaming, divx playback etc etc) stuff has really excited me. I am dumbfounded as to why everyone wouldnt want a PS3 has a multimedia entertainment system. i've just got a brand new HDTV (today) to go with it, and i'm glad as hell i wont need a PC alongside it anymore (i can always plug the Mac into the TV if i'm desperate) all my whored downloads can be streamed from another room, or just copied to a memorystick to play them on it.

I am glad to read you are happy with it.

Fallout 3 has been voted the best game of 2008 on the PS3,X360 and PC. Fallout 1 and 2 are amazing too, so I would suggest at least renting F3 and giving it a go. One problem with F3 is that it needs dedication.

GTA 4 is amazing, my friend and I take turns to see how many helicopters we can take out in 1 life, I've managed about 4 or 5.

Whoops ;)

You are far too good at those games  :o

The whole setup looks pretty cool though, no UAE problems or slow down and its with a nice controller on a big screen. Thats why I love playing on this wide screen mac, but unfortunately the games are not as quick as that.

Next video request:

Moonstone
Speedball 2
Flashback or Another World :P

Thats if you are gonna make another one, you seem to have it down now. Did you have to create scripts for each game separately and are they like batch files or something?
Title: Re: PS3 UAE
Post by: Hungry Horace on March 03, 2009, 05:12:10 PM
there's a universal script on the Amiga side of things, although the linux scripts and uae configs have to be changed manually to account for different folder locations. Nothing much though.

I have had a few enquiries by PM on youtube, so i think i'm going to make a tutorial video.

i now have a "PS3UAE" playlist on my youtube channel:

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=E79C2E797E272CAE

I added a 3-part guide to setting up e-uae with single-booting WHDload setups. I'd do a similar thing if PSPUAE ever had HD support (although i might, in that situation, do something even better)

I think the PS3 is a great piece of kit, I'd love to purchase one skate but I've always waited for price drops, I only got my PS2 slim 18 months ago! lol

My first PSP phat was 1.5 firmware off ebay for 80 quid.

Xbox360 was free with missus mobile contract with carphone warehouse.

I've always made my own PC's since 1986, although this isn't cheaper than buying any longer.

Infact, I paid full price, plus 20 quid for a DS lite!  :o what a muppet lol.

And a full priced psp2000 which I love  ;)

I'll get a PS3 someday that's for sure, I love what Horace does with his! it's just a matter of time  ;)

Post by: Hungry Horace on March 09, 2009, 09:33:12 PM
i use my PS3 every day, but i am not even playing games that often. in fact, i still only own 4.

My MacBook has Vuze bittorrent client on it, for which i have some RSS feeds set up with subscriptions for auto-downloading some of my favorite shows.... one of the great things is, this is then instantly shared as a Media Server which the PS3 picks up without any kind of setting up, so i just copy my downloads to the PS3, and watch on my HDTV :D

Coupled with Blu-Ray, DVD, Picture viewers, music playback, all of which can also come from the networked media server, oh, and along with the option of Linux, it's a genuinely a great bit of kit and has completely replaced my PC.... the 1TB HD i attached tends to help there too ;)

not a bad little xmas present i must say :)

mighty cool stuff Horace - MaCTooba!  :D

Good Quality video, good gameplay.  That water release is a *unt to get past, me and my brother spent ages trying to get past it all those years ago!

Dont know how many packets of choccy biscuits it took us to complete the whole game but McVites shares sored at the time lol.

Anyways, stop baiting me into spending oodles of cash on a PS3!  ;)  Tell him FOL, this is definitely baiting surely? LOL

Cheers mate. Obviously had a "bit" of practice ;)

about 3 years ago i was able to complete the entire game in about 30-45 minutes.

the water bit is actually fairly easy, i just cocked it up, but knew it was my time to stop playing anyway!

one of the hardest bits is when that bloke grabs you, you kick him in the nuts, roll and grab the gun. If that bit itself isnt hard enough (depends on the controller you use), the screen just afterwards with 2 guys shooting from each side is!
Title: Re: PS3 UAE
Post by: skateblind on March 18, 2009, 06:38:42 PM
Yeah, shooting those two guys is annoying. The bit where you have to run away from the water is very easy, bit of tension, but still easy.

I usually hate those things on the floor that start chomping when you get near by.

Its all about knowing what to do when.

@ FOL

I am going to have a bit of a break from coding on AMOS i think.

I would very much appreciate your help with trying to tweek e-uae for use with Linux (and, ultimately, the PS3) , so i have some questions!

1 - Do you have Linux set up in some form for compiling native linux versions of e-uae?
2 - How is your familiarity with inputconfig.c in PSPUAE? It is mostly functions from here I would like to tweek, but i suspect it is only some parts that would be needed (for us to discuss)
3 - Do you have some time to give me some help, maybe on some weekends? :)

Anything you can do to aid me would be wonderful, and appreciated.... you know i hate C! I do have a program on

It's such a shame that the slim PS3's do not support 'OtherOS' ... perhaps this will mean hackers will be more determined now though!

I remember us discussing this before. Just aint had any time to look.
I can setup a partition for linux. just to compile e-uae in linux.

The next few weeks to a month are very busy for me, so will have to try and arrange something after.

I have had some dealings with that pesky input file, ;).

i would be insterested to know how nicely this works with PS3 linux, and if it will solve my control problems.

would be nice to get gnostic back here for a chat on the matter

Also Hungry Horace, that NoWriteCache option you said to enable is that something that should also be enabled for a normal ClassicWB/pc/whdload installation, to make saving easier?

i do it on every setup, because it makes saving instant. That way, if the power goes out, or my laptop runs out of battery, or i reset the machine because i forgot no to, my saves/highscores etc are always stored. It's a personal preference :)

after hearing what you said about the splash screen speed on whdload, I adjusted it down to 0 but it still seems to take about 5 seconds before the splash screen goes, (my whdload is registered btw) didnt seem to work for me

WHDload version number?  A typo in the tooltype? It's worked here for quite a while (and can be seen in action on the video)
