Title: A500 dirty diskdrive
Post by: The Chaos Engine on July 24, 2006, 09:04:45 PM
Hi folks, i've got my old a500 in a box, but the internal drive is dirty.
At least dirty i think, like there's sand inside. The external drive
works good. I'v got this same problem with my c64 1541 drive.
(i even got all my old c64 tapes+disk collection, i sold my (6diskboxes) a500 disks,stupid me).

Anyone with an answer for cleaning a a500 internal and a c64 1541 drive?

Id take it apart first, if there aint sand in it, then clean the Magnetic heads with I.P.A. and a cotton bud.

Does it boot from the Exteranl, cause I remember mine wouldnt. You could always stick your external inside your A500

whose got sand in their v..... oh right.... i see.  ::)

the problem with booting from DF1 (which is better done "forced" by something like the AR-III) is that a lot of games are coded to read from DF0 and nothing else.... its rare to find a500 games that use more than 2 drives nevermind ones that let you use only DF1 upwards!

depending on what external drive it is, i'd consider fitting it into the a500 as DF0 myself too.

my a1200 disk drive is all screwed up, but since i never use floppies it it's not really a problem!
