Title: May Contain Spoilers! - Book of Skulls - The Keep Feedback
Post by: skateblind on August 25, 2009, 10:46:17 AM
What a great set of new levels and challenges! Some new ideas which I have not seen in the original levels and some of the fights are pretty epic. There are a few bits I would love to talk about with others, but I don't want to spoil the surprise, go play it right now!  :)

I've moved this to a seperate thread, marked witha spoiler warning, so you can say what you like now :)

Just finished playing through the previous version myself. i'm quite happy with it now, although perhaps still more food and/or objects are needed to be left around.

The end section of it was a good difficulty i thought.

That hidden grey key is evil, EVIL I tell you!

I know you fixed it, not had a chance to check, but hopefully it is a bit more visible or there are better clues. :)

This is awesome, been playing it with my friend, big problem though we got to the sign that says 'Crystals Above Are Summoning The Great Power Of Auld' then we tried to save it but it didn't work and the save place corrupted, so we're gonna have to start again.  Was we far from the end?

there is a known (and reported) bug with the latest WHDload slave, where the saving locks up. I can only recommend you use several (say, 1-4) save-slots on rotation... so if one is corrupted, you only have to go back a small amount.

I hope Girv (whdload slave author) will release a fix for this soon.

re: where you reached... that means you must have collected your team (the prison) and completed the sewer.... however, there are 3 more whole floors for you to bash monsters on before you are at the end!

I am glad to hear someone is getting a chance to test this in 2 player mode.

Please let me know if you find any "loopholes" ... eg. doors you can get away with not opening, or parts where you can "skip" sections because you already have a key that gives you later access... this would be a result of poor map design on my part!

Ah, didn't realize the emulator has Save States till after, they seem to work better.

It plays great, i like how the bad guys and puzzles get tougher the further you get, 'tis well made.  Haven't noticed any loopholes, flows very smooth from one place to the next.

The prison place scared me, I thought they were bad guys and all the doors were gonna open at once lol, funny when they turned out to be the good guys.  The iron key hunt was fun, i love how they blend in.

One thing I sorta needed was another Reforge Thy Bones, because after you recruit from the prison, the new members are really weak and die very easily if hit, but not a big deal.

Also one strange bug I found before the save place died, at 'The Great Power Of Auld' sign, the stairs next to it, i went up them, and turned around to go back down and I suddenly appeared back at the prison, and i had to walk all the way back, I have it recorded lol, very odd.

Overall excellent so far!  ;D

Puzzles? there barely are any yet!

there is the one reforge machine near the start, by the open room with the red crab in it, which you can always go back to, until you drop into the sewer. if you had stepped a little further than the sign you were at, you'd have found that the map looped back round to that first machine for you. it isnt much you have to do without access to it!

I also plan to increase the stats of the locked-up characters - but i need these to be realistic stats. could you please screengrab any character-stats when each non-warrior reaches level 3, and post them in this sub-forum? I have a lot of them so far, but it would mean i'd have to play through it 4 times before I got them all, and the level is not that short!

Just looking at the map, i can see the fault. one set of stairs is the wrong way round. That's quite an epic failing on my part, and will mean I have to change a couple of things around at that point to fix it :(

Yea, i tried to go back and find the reforge but couldn't find it, hehe.  Will try and take screen grabs, not sure if they will reach level 3 by the end though, well maybe, have to see whenever we get a chance to play it next.  :)

they will definately reach level 3 before the end of The Keep :)  as i say, i've played through twice and already picked up the stats for some (althogh i'd appreciate even characters repeated, so I can see how varied their stats can be!)

good news: i've manged to rearrange the section around the stairs to fix the problem without breaking all the other floors! its only marginally different to before.

Here's those level 3 stats, got a bit further than last time, but both the whdload and amiga emulator save state crash randomly when trying to save, so that's a bit of a pain hmm.

sorry about the delay, i've had a busy week and it has taken me longer than expected to fix the maps! (there's a lot of triggers and switches in there for the puzzles!)

I shall try and get the monsters/remaining objects in there during the course of this weekend. hold tight and watch this space!

Title: Re: Bloodwych - Book of Skulls - Download - Work in Progress

Cheers, but got some problems, instead of starting again we used the save place from the old disk, just before we finished the keep there were a bunch of doors yet to be opened like 2 chromatic, red, yellow, maybe more, but we had a green key for a while and that led us straight into serpent tower, now I don't know if we screwed it up but the Serpent tower is fubar, my friend spawned inside a wall (and somehow got out), I picked up a second bluish gem, there's a bunch of arc bolts that lead to nowhere but doom, there's items stuck inside walls, and nowhere at all to go, looks rather broken  :-\.  If it isn't suppose to be like that, is there any chance you can insert us into a working Serpent tower?

Torico, "that seems very likely"!

the game saves map info etc inside the savegame, so if you can attach your 'outside the serpent tower' save here, i can insert your team into the original game data, and start your characters in the right location.

the disk posted in the other thread is only meant to be played from the start. :)

edit: posts split, moved, merged etc

Cheers mate, also a few problem from the keep, there's seriously not enough armour weapons or coinage later in the keep, enough for one but not two, my friend was still wearing leather by the end and we were struggling for money to buy stuff, also near the end with the 3 stairs point up in a square, when i turned around they messed up, a wall appeared in front of the stairs and when the baddies were at the top, i couldn't get up, i was stuck at the bottom.  Just thought i'd mention that. :D

did you go back down to the sewer (bottom floor) with the gems and collect the armour in there? Also, I know you dont play with any Cutpurses, so it's possible some hidden shelves have been missed!

Objects etc that have been placed may be different on the one you played to the one posted above! It's very difficult for me to be sure, as I know there were difference between the ones with/without the lower stairs bug.

re: your other stairs bug, i'm not sure i understand?  If the Knights (persumably?) are on one set of stairs, just go up the other stairs and wait around a bit until they move. I dont really understand the wall comment (there are no appearing walls around there, and i've been up/down those stairs quite a bit!)... might be one to make a video of!

just got your disk, you'll have to give me a little time to make the transfer :)

It's like if you stand at the top of the stairs and turn left a wall appears, it's messed up, that kind of thing, doesn't always happen though.  We used the gems, helped a slight bit, but it's way too strict for 2player, hmm.

attached ;)

save number 3

the Keep has been "re-stocked" with items as a result of doing this however... my apologies, but this is kind of a dirty hack just to make the next tower playable for you!

i had a look, and i found at least 25 gold, some potions, and a Mithril Axe you missed in one location!

i'll add a couple more items, but i am weary of making the 1 player mode (or 2 player!) too easy... i'd like this to be quite a bit harder than the original... hmm.. decisions, decisions!

Surely you have alchemy by now to get cash, and you can skip back to the Trader at the start if it's armour you need?  you may find the contents of the Serpent Tower are enough though!

I tried to reproduce this stair bug, with no success so far.

Ah, that's cool, nice and challenging then hehe, wonder where we missed the axe, was there a trader? can't remember, i know there was a potion trader but not sure i seen another.  Would you be adding extended level spells and recruitable bad guys, or is that a bit much?  :)
