could be as simple as having both the PC and the Amiga drive set to 'master' on the IDE, switch the jumper on the amiga one over to 'slave'

more info:
its 3,5"
we was setting jumper on all positions about 5 times with random settings in bios
in bios i have setted my hd with windows to boot first but after the bios check devices it should boot my xp but its only"_" blinking in top left side of screen and nothing happens
diskis connected by ide port its segate 512 or 40 mb (we dont know because its not signed on it and no one remeber it)
disk is displayed in bios so i think it works and its rotating inside

OOkkkkk ...

If its IDE and its not finding the drive within the bios (only flashing trying to detect it) then its not plugged in correctly, theres no power to it, or its set wrongly (slave / master)

1/ make sure the cable is connected correctly, if IDE, the red wire should point towards the POWER connector on the hard drive
2/ verify theres power to it
3/ check the master drive (usually the FIRST hard drive. bootable pc drive... windows etc) has the IDE plug from the CENTER of the IDE cable, (NOT the end- The SLAVE drive should connect to the very end of the cable) ...  eg >
`Motherboard---------------------Master----Slave`
Note the length of the IDE cable from the motherboard to the Master is longer than from the master to the slave.
4/ check the second drive is set to slave- if you still have problems, take out the jumper to enable "cable select" which I think means it trys to automatically detect which one is it.
5/ If theres no luck, connect the Hard drive to the motherboard using another cable (there should be 2 IDE cables, if not, plug another in!)-  per mobo, theres usually 2 sets of cables, each capable of controlling two hard drives each

he means the red strip down the edge of the main IDE cable

see the top / right-hand side here:

you should have 2 of these. One goes to the PC HD and the other to the CD/DVD drive?

If so, disconnect the CD/DVD drive, and connect the amiga HD in its place.

Dunno if is impossible this ,coz Amiga HD is different format partition as PC maybe this conflict the boot looking the HD as bad.
Another choice is : put this HD on any USB case for 3.5" HD external, and later you can found this on WINUAE as Amiga HD.

Similar to like this i mean http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1945393&CatId=1204
External USB case for IDE 3.5" HD

@ HH, thanks for that,  ;)
There will be a thin "coloured" strip down the end on one side of that IDE cable, that needs to face the power (in the case of a 3.5" HD)

.... Its also up to you on how much cash you wanna use....  If you have a 3.5" Hard drive, and a computer, you should be able to do it as it is...

It won't disrupt the boot if its plugged in correctly as a slave, but you can change the boot priority using the BIOS (hit DELETE or something on the keyboard JUST AS it turns on)

-  Dont be scared! Just do it!  Do it NOW!
...  There is nothing to lose!

problem is when i set to the slave the bios is checking devices nut then do not want to boot xp and special boot cd
i have set xp first bootable master disk and i see only "_" but my dad is thinking about buying that hd case for usb

so the bios is trying to find the hard drive with the "_" ... when it searches for the devices ?

Then it has nothing to do with windows, you need to check BOTH the jumpers for the secondary (Amiga one) AND the primary one so that the drivers are either set as MASTER (second drive hooked to the cable) and SLAVE (last on cable) - OR Master and "Cable select"

Try also removing the main hard drive, plugging it up, and check where it throws the amiga drive in the bios check.  -  It COULD be a dodgy drive

easier to just stick on the secondary channel, then no chance of this blinking crap. Thats all I do with mine, works fine.

Yes, you just use the "add harddrive" option in WinUAE.

Usually I like to help people with problems ...  But am I the only person losing interest in posting in this thread?  :'(

karol30093:  Stop asking questions, and get the Hard drive working in the computer first!   We can think about Winuae AFTER the HD is recognised by the PC! ;/

Amiga is the same when using 3.5" cable.
2.5" is smaller cable but still works the same.
