Title: Looking for the Turbo Plus Extension V 2.15 for Amos Pro (New QUESTION!)
Post by: MichaelVParent on July 25, 2015, 11:53:11 PM
EDIT* The plot thickens,

As mentioned in this thread, I found the extension.  I installed it and it works great.  VERY Fast blitting and screen scrolling are possible with this. I'm going through the manual and learning the new commands etc...

BUT now there's a new problem. In the documentation it says the following:
"SCENES

Scene commands are used to display arrangements of icons.
The following commands will allow you to manipulate scenes on screen quickly
and easily.
Scenes are synonymous with Maps in any other extension such as TOME.
See the TURBO Scene Editor documentation for more details on the creation and
theory of icon based Scenes.
"
I Can not find any other document and can not find the Turbo scene editor itself.  So, apparently Turbo Plus has some great tile map support, but I cant find it!  Am I misunderstanding this?

Hi everyone. I'm looking for AmosPro Turbo Plus Extension V 2.15 but cant find where to download it.

Does anyone have this, or a working link to it?

Thanks.

I think those are the unregistered version of Turbo Plus.

Yeah, it also seems to be an older version.  I guess I'll have to post on all the Amiga forums to see if anyone has it or can find a link. I hope I can find it.

Thanks

There is a demo on Aminet.  I'm not sure if it is fully functional or not, but there are some docs included.

Ugh!  It's not fully functional.  The save is disabled.   :(

Yup. I just tried it. It's a shame. its really an awesome map editor.  I found a youtube channel with nothing but Amiga videos and the name of the youtube channel is the same exact name as the creator of this map editor...so I sent a private message to see if he's the same guy and if he still has the pad editor.

I'll also post on other Amiga forums in the mean-time to see if anyone esle has it.

This and Turbo Plus seem superior to Tome, both in performance and in the feature-set in the tile editor... I'll definitely be using this for my demo/games.... its just a matter of whether or not I'll need to make a new tile map editor for it first.. I sure hope not. ;)

If that becomes the case, are you available to that as a Bounty? (paid work to create a new tile map editor compatible with Turbo Plus)

cheers.

Here's an interesting possibility. This map editor says you can actually "program it" to export to any data format you want.. maybe another alternate solution is to make a translator for this that exports the maps to be compatible with TurboPlus/Amos.

I could certainly look at modifying that tile editor, but it may be preferable to make another editor that can be used on the Amiga.

I'm keen on helping with this project as well as the other bounties that you've suggested.

Then please contact me asap so we can solidify tasks and bounties for specific milestones.  I'm eager to get some serious momentum going. :)

I'll private message you my skype id in case you use skype. (free and super useful for quick collaboration, especially die to screen sharing ability while speaking via microphone.)

Let's kick some Amos butt. ;)

I have my own AMOS made tile editor, called Tilemaster.

There is a video showing it on YouTube here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvtQ4fCCZV8 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvtQ4fCCZV8)

Sorry about the quality... at that time I could only upload compressed videos due to bandwidth issues.

In short, the screen is split into 3 panes:

 -> Top = Map
-> Middle = Menu and status messages
-> Bottom = IFF image used for tiles

Cursor keys are used to select tile to use on IFF image in bottom part, whilst mouse button is used to place tiles in the top part. Currently tiles are deleted by placing the mouse over the handle and pressing backspace - I intend to add an enhancement so I can use the right mouse button to delete tiles, to make things quicker and even easier :)

It still has a few minor bugs that need fixing (I only found them whilst designing levels for my assembler-based game...). I know it's not mind blowingly brilliant, but it is easy to use.

Hello everyone!  Sorry to bring up a really old post.

My name is Cecil Meeks (cbmeeks) and I am the original author of the Turbo Plus Scene Editor.  I found this post online because I was reminiscing about my Amiga days and wondered if anyone ever used the map editor I wrote.

I won't go into the entire story here (unless people are interested) but basically, I wrote the Turbo Plus Scene Editor (formerly called Game Mapper) back when I was around 20 years old (48 now...jeesh).  I wrote it on my Amiga 1200HD.

Back then, I worked with a man named Ryan Scott and he had somehow gotten my map editor (along with some other software he wrote) into an issue of CU Amiga.  I was a published developer!!!   (LMAO!!)

Decades go by and me being American never really got a lot of Amiga magazines and I never saw my "publication".

Fast forward to 2020, and I'm chatting with my good friend over at the Digital Orphanage (https://twitter.com/TheDigitalOrph) about how I wrote the map editor and it was published but I never knew how to find it.  20 minutes later, he found it!  Both on Archive.org and on eBay.

Anyway....

I ramble on.  So that same year in 2020, I decided to see if my original source code was still on my Amiga 1200.  Yes, I still have it and recapped it a few years ago.  So I knew it worked.  But was the ORIGINAL hard drive dead?

Short answer is NO!  It still worked.  Not only that, I found my original source code to the Turbo Plus Scene Editor!

The next problem I had was how to get it over to my PC?  I had a PCMCIA to CF card adapter but when I put a CF card in the Amiga, it was never recognized.  After some research I discovered I needed some drivers.  But how to get the drivers on the Amiga??

Then I remembered I had a WiModem232.  And, as luck would have it, there was already a terminal program on my Amiga.  So I configured the modem and connected to it from my PC using Putty.  I then transferred the drivers over and now I had a formatted CF card in my Amiga.

Short drag-n-drop later and for the first time in 26 years, my source code was backed up to my modern PC.   :-D

OK, sorry...I said I wouldn't get into the details but I couldn't resist.

So today I thought I would release everything I got on GitHub.  Warts and all (be kind...I was only 20 at the time!).

https://github.com/cbmeeks/TurboPlusSceneEditor

Enjoy and please let me know if you have any questions.  I've seriously thought about getting back into AMOS lately.

Hey Cecil

Great to see you hear and massive thanks for both your work 'back in the day' and for still digging this out now for us to all enjoy!!

Things here are a little quiet, but we still have a very Active AMOS group on facebook:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/113236919014317

Perhaps you dont know, but there is still an AGA AMOS in development, and the availabilty of your source code would be welcomed in order to ensure it is still supported, or adapted to work with AGA tiles!
