I'm somewhat new to the Amiga front but not to computer from the 8 or 16 bits era.
I was raised on an a healthly diet of Amstrads however a number of my friends had C64s. In 1990 my father asked me what I wanted for Xmas and I told him the new Amstrad 464+. My friend was getting an Amiga so we thought we would have the best of both worlds. A kinda got the smellier end of that sticky stick.
However, I have recently inherited an A1200 from a family member who has departed the country. He gave me a LOAD of boxes with games and allsorts. He informed me that the A1200 has a 4gb HDD inside it however he was never able to boot it or get games installed on it.
I am hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction to get this up and running, I have searched however I'm just getting lost in what I need to do. I understand DOS and Windows however I have little experience with Workbench and I don't even think there is a copy on disk.
Can anyone give me a few keywords to start down the search lane with?
Thanks so much, this look like a great community with intelligent people.
Gareth.

Re:hard drive
Look for the original system disks. One of them should have a program on it containing a program called HD Toolbox. You can partition the hard drive with that. (Use a 100 MB partition for the boot partition. It should be the first one. This will allow you to use the whole drive without installing a 64 bit filesystem in case the drive is too big.)
If you don't have the original system disks, AmigaKit should be able to sell you some.

Hi and Welcome.
First off, you will need your workbench disks. In perticular, your Install disk. It will allow you to setup the HDD. If you are familiar with WinUAE, you could use that as it can some times be easier.
Another way would to use;
4GB CF HDD (Prinstalled with licenced OS3.1)

Would you be against opening up the case and having a look at whats inside? (maybe positng some photos) so we can verify what might be the best advice?
