good non amiga games
« on: September 02, 2006, 04:31:45 PM »

just a general topic to keep things flowing.... thought i'd find out what people's favorite "not amiga" games are - either not appearing on the amiga at all, or just generally not being good enough on our beloved Commodore Machne.

mine for example (excluding the Horace games!) are Gauntlet on the ZX Speccy (better than the arcade!), which ranks up there along with other speccy greats such as Manic Miner (miggy version sucks!) and SkoolDaze.

Even been playing a few c64 games of late, and it seems fairly clear the best work is that of a certan Jeff Minter. I've been loving MetaGalactic Llamas quite a lot!

fave Megadrive is still probably OutRun since it's another one that makes the miggy version look a bit lacking.

fave GameBoy game is an easy one; Kirby's Pinball Land - combining platform style gameplay with pinball is a genius idea.

favourite non-amiga arcade game (cos most of them like NZS and Rainbow Islands are damn good conversions on the 'mig!) is Athena - gutted that this one was never ported - it would have made a wonderful A500 game imho.

SNES / NES i dont really have an faves on... since they really dont sit well with me oin gameplay style, and SMS i haven played enough of.

wont go into later-gen machines just yet.... otherwise i'll be rambling on for ages!

Surely you mean 'non' Amiga games  :P

For me the top game is the Speccy version of Elite along with Turbo Lotus Esprit, a game that beat the Driver series of driving about large cities by about 15 years.  Also a couple of old classics on the BBC Electron called Starship Command and a two player split screen game called Icarus.

Mega-CD version of Ecco the Dolphin was superb as it had extra's over the cart version, plus the OST for the game is one of the best I've ever heard.  Wish I hadn't given it away now as I really would like to listen to it again.

Will add more as and when I think of them.

Shhhhh!!!!, dont anger the Horace, its a drinking night, ;),

Mine has to be Bubble Bobble on the speccy, we used to leave our speccy on cause the tape deck was wonky, games either didnt load or took many attempts. Skool daze was cool to.

My favorite snes game is StarWing (StarFox to the Americans here)

My fav games are:-

Spectrum - Jetpac, Stonkers, Multi-Player Soccer Manager, Match Day, Starquake, Cobra (Any Jonathon "Joffa" Smith Games.), Starion, Dan Dare, Pjamarama and Scuba Dive plus a lot more !

C64 - Suicide Express, Impossilbe Mission ("Stay a while or stay foreverrrrrrrrrrr" that speech amazed me back then!), Summer Games, Crazy Comets (killer music) and probably the best 64 game Paradroid.

Never really bothered with Nintendo or Sega consoles as i was on the Amiga in those days!

PS1 - Resident Evil, Tomb Raider and Silent Hill
PS2 - GTA, Pro Evo and Metal Gear solid

If i had to choose one machine/console i would say the Spectrum closely followed by the Amiga but both pretty much cover all areas of top quality gaming. Fav game of all time is Championship Manager (originally on the Amiga and now called Football manager) and I'm a lucky b'stard as I'm a beta tester for the new version ;D

 :D hello!  :D

Allright'cha My favourite non Amigagames are:

On the Neo Geo: SAMURAI SHOWDOWN II !!! My friend has a NeoGeo and we had some craaaazy fights, you wouldn't believe if i would tell you.

I always play Genjuro. I call him "Master of the 7 Cards".

My friend he plays Ukyo. He call him "Master of the Spiderstyle".

I think it's the best duel game i've ever played so far.

One of my favourite Rpg's is Morrowind. I never got deeply into Oblivion but i love Morrowind. I also played the Might and Magic series on the Pc. Might and Magic VI was the first one in real 3D. It was really a hard game, you had to choose which way you want to go, the good or the evil way...you could do both but had to do immense work on the reputation.

I killed a lot of these Dragons  :D

Allright what else...hmmm... ah yes! Dynablaster on the Gameboy  ;D

Oh if forgot one of the best Rpg's ever made!

DARK SUN!!!

You are a Gladiatorgroup and you had to break out the Prison and destroy the mighty Empire! Best RPG ever!

maybe i remember more of them...  ::)

Chase HQ - an excelent converison with great sound (although terrible loading times).

R-type Delta
Gran turismo

a sequel -was- made.  on the speccy only though, not the C64.

It's called "Back 2 Skool" and can be found on worldofspectrum.org

there is also a similar game by the same authors about a detective called "Contact Sam Cruise"

personally, i rather lliked the remake/sequel Kalss of '99.... considering it was on a PC!

yeah, they arent disrespectful to the orignal, as some remakes are.... i mean - some of them look worse than running the original with crazy filter-up-scale-smoothing stuff!!!

Klass of 99 is also available for GBA as public domain game.  this probably means you can play it on the PSP with the GBA emu... though it might run worse than commercial games due to its nature?
