It Came from the Desert; King of Chicago - Cinemaware games.

Hello everyone, new poster here!

Can anyone help me getting It Came from the Desert to run rather smoothly? I tried many settings for that Cinemaware classic but there's no way for getting rid of that crackly, stuttering sound.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated as I am not that much familiar with Amiga hardware.

I've now also tried King of Chicago (another Cinemaware classic) and an old adventure game by Polish developer Seven Stars - Kajko i Kokosz.

They all run really sluggish with crackly sound which gives me cramps. Seeing all these amazing youtube videos by Delta191, I was convinced things would run a lot faster.
Am I doing something wrong? Any help appreciated (and yes - I've read readme.txt :)).

PS.

This is marvelous that there's such a huge community for PSPUAE, with it's own homepage and forums...
I wish PSP DOSBOX had such a community as well.

Have you tried the Savestate in the downloads section. Also, have you altered CPU Cycles to "TURBO".
If you want to alter the CPU Cycles on a savestate. You have to load the state, then alter setting, after reboot, save config (state name). Then reload the state.

Another thing, is to set sound delay to 1ms. That will make the sound the best it can be, as the current source allows. You will also find sound stutters bad, when floppies are active / loading.

Yes, I did the CPU turbo thing. I still don't quite follow a couple of options (MAX/REAL/CHIPSET thingy) etc.

Everything i set in Frameskip i simply horrible except Auto. Setting a static frameskip just makes things worse.

What exactly does the savestate helps? Except being...well...a savestate?

Read here

States remove the need for adf's and therefore the stuttering sound while its read from adf.
I can play It came from the desert very nicely using the state. Plus the sound aint that bad, only a few games.

I always use cpu = chipset % rather than real or max and start from chipset 40% and frameskip set to 39, then adjust from there.

It seems to offer better balance between good sound and speed/smoothness of gameplay, although games that are disk intensive are not the best with these settings, a good example is defender of the crown.

single adf's or x2 adfs(where the second ADF is left in the drive after the first ADF has loaded) are best with the above settings.

Make sure the sound is set to 1 like FOL says. Set to 9 can cause jittery sound with some games.

And yes, PSPUAE community is very sweet, so glad we have FOL and Horace as the Amiga Boffins to guide us.  :)
