GP2X Wiz Pandora?
« on: May 24, 2009, 06:29:32 AM »

Hi, I love emulation and love the fact my PSP can do the emulation for the C64, Speccy, Sega Master System, Megadrive, SNES etc you guys have done an amazing job of getting the complicated emulation for the Amiga done, but I think it would be great to have a portable device that did the Amiga 100% (better sound and higher frame rate) and MAME too (Outrun, SF2, Op Wolf, Ghouls & Ghosts).  I hope the GP2X Wiz manages to do it all or the Pandora (too expensive).

For some reason I prefer a portable device to do this emulation, a Wii, Xbox or PS3 don't interest me as my laptop can do it all and I can attach it to my HDTV.  Nothing better than have a portable device that you can take on the train to work, plane, car, toilet (you know you do) with ease and stick it in your bag, I've tried taking my laptop with me, but it can't compete.

Not sure why I'm saying all this, but I think I need a device like the PSP that can do it all and in a nostalgic sort of way my who youth in a device, maybe the GP2x Wiz or Pandora will do it, not sure if there is anything else out there.

My penny's worth...

The Pandora sounds and looks really amazing. If it is as powerful as they say it is, then I will be buying one.

I somehow find the prices of both quite discouraging. GPWiz costs way more then my own PSP Fat and PSP offers great games, a good enough for me emulation quality, high quality movies (relatively) while GPWiz is made by koreans who give little or non support for their own product, they have no game developer support and only give you a powerful tool for emulation with, I guess, still unknown quality. I think I'll pass...
Pandora on the other hand... hell... If it hadn't had a price of a decent netbook and if it was available a little better then internet in North Korea then sure... why not... In the meantime I find it interesting, but only interesting.

So ok... If you're a quality freak and can't stand a few glitches in the emulation on the PSP then I think you could take interest in the Wiz. However I wouldn't be so sure if the emulation will be perfect. But who knows.

I'm personally interested more in the Dingoo A320. It has a bit worse parameters then Wiz, but it costs half it's price! I think I'll go soon for that... An Amiga emu is bound to appear for it soon.

I have already said, if the Wii is struggling to emulate the Amiga, why would the pandora do any better?

I mean the Wii has a 729MHz CPU, this should be ample to run UAE, but still it struggles.
Plus we are talking about True Amiga Emulation, NOT UAE4ALL, which is just an A500 emulator.

Taken from wikipedia:
-------------------------

Manufacturer    OpenPandora.
Type    Handheld game console / UMPC / PDA hybrid
CPU    600 MHz OMAP3530 ARM Cortex-A8 (32 Bit) and
430 MHz TMS320C64x+ DSP Core, NEON & TRADE SIMD coprocessor[1]
Storage capacity    Dual SDHC slots, 512 MB internal NAND, USB external storage
Graphics    PowerVR SGX 530 at 110 MHz
Connectivity    Wi-Fi, USB 2.0, Bluetooth

Check out the processors, I don't think the Pandora will do any better with Amiga emulation than the Wii, but it could come very close. I think this will be the handheld to beat for a few years after its release. If they can get game developers behind it and still manage to keep it's open source principles, then I can see it lasting a long time.

Has anyone actually got 1?

If I remember, they promised and promised, but never delivered. I remember when they were showing off the Amiga emu on it without sound, lol. Everyone creamed over it. Lets remove sound from PSPUAE, will people cream over it then, cause it runs fullspeed, lol.

Of course I reserve final judgment for when it is actually in my hands.  ;D
From what I have read it has been delayed for over a year now, but I am gonna keep my fingers crossed and hope it comes out before the end of this year.

I can still be excited by the possiblities though.  :o

Blah... How can a console like that get developer support if they are selling it in... what was it? 4000 Pandora's a year? Overpriced? And you've got to sign up for it? Come on... Pandora is like Big Foot. Everybody knows something about it, a few people claim to have actually seen it but noone really know if it actually exists ;) .

Soon PSP 2 will show up and Pandora will go to waste even before it is really born.

Frankly I wouldn't be much surprised if it all turned out to be a huge scam ;) .

4000 * 330 $ = 1.320.000 $

Nice sum, don't ya think ?
