Hello all, I'm having a little bit of trouble
« on: November 19, 2009, 12:18:20 AM »

Hi, I'm new here. I'm having a bit of trouble with Amiga emulation on the PSP. I first tried PSPUAE4All and found it very hard to use and navigate. I couldn't get any game to work with it.  Then I switched to your emulator, PSPUAE. I must say, I found it much more intuitive and easier to navigate. The one problem I have is that the games that I get working seem to lag a bit.

I'm using the 0.72 Fame version, which I believe is the latest version released. I'm totally lost when it comes to the Amiga, as I never owned one or seen one in my life. I was wondering if there were some tips or settings that I could use in order to make the most out of this emulator. Thanks in advance.

I also wanted to add that I am glad that you guys are still working on this. I had heard somewhere that the project had been abandoned, but it seems from the news section that a 0.80 beta release is not too far off. I am really stoked and excited that this is still being worked on.

Hello and welcome to the party.

Although the devs are trying, PSPUAE is not full speed. 90% of the games you would want to play do work at a playable speed. The chaps here have created files called RISS's(http://pspuae.condor.serverpro3.com/index.php/topic,401.0.html) which makes loading games with the correct settings easier. The game should run at full speed or close enough to make them playable. Read the guide and download the games in the DOWNLOADS section, http://pspuae.condor.serverpro3.com/index.php?action=tpmod;dl .

For any other answers you might be looking for, read the read-me that either came with the install files or the read-me in the 'documents and faq's' page.
http://pspuae.condor.serverpro3.com/index.php?page=6

You should find all your answers there, but feel free to ask if you get stuck.

BTW, PSPUAE is not like your normal console emulator where you only need to select the game you want to play. An Amiga is a complicated computer and so when trying to setup the emulator, you really do need to know what you are doing to get the best out of it. Saying that, PSPUAE does contain some quickstart settings which will allow you to run most games without much tweaking and like I said before, we have created a bunch of RISS's which make the process as simple as load and play. Frameskip is vital to get the games playing at a decent speed.

There are guides everywhere on the net, if you really want to understand amiga emulation, then I suggest you read them. A WinUAE guide will probably explain most of the features of emulating an Amiga that you would need to know about, like CHIPSET, CPU, RAM & KICKSTARTS. I suspect though, that these have already been answered in our documents.

Enjoy!  :)

Thanks for the response. The reason I looked into Amiga emulation was the game Castles 2. I played it religiously on the PC back in the day, and saw that it was on the Amiga. Of course the thought of playing it in the palm of my hand was pure bliss. I'm having trouble getting it installed, and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a RISS for it. However I was using the PSPUAE FAME edition, which I read here is unstable. So hopefully the 0.72 stable version of the emulator will do the trick.

It is a CD32 game, http://hol.abime.net/2952. Which means it will have to be made into a save-state, since CD32 games are ISO format when made into an image for an emulator to read, which means PSPUAE cannot read it. Maybe one of the chaps here can be of service and make the save-state for you. :)

Oh, I didn't realize it was an ISO. I have the version that came in the TOSEC. It's 8 disks, with each disk represented by an ADF image.

Horace could still be right, depends on how much memory is needed to run game.

As we are using RAM for disk space, it may eat in to that.

i honestly think you will be pushing it to get it to work with 8 disks worth of data in RAM: and have it run on a game that is probably expecting 2 meg worth of chipram.

then again, maybe the disks arent all full. (since it's a cut-up CD)

I remember the days, when we were banging them out 20+ a night, lol.
I downloaded all the WHDLOAD packs and got to C, had a computer crash then never done D to Z, :(.
