Hi guys, just wondering if state saving is generally flakey or if it's just something with my setup. I'm running E-UAE and Hi-Toro on an Intel macbook. I have used Hi-Toro to set a good working configuration which includes a state save file.
The first problem I have is the inconvenient key combo of F11 + Right Shift + Num n which on a laptop is F11 + Right Shift + Function + Num n - which is about as tricky as it could possibly be. It's a pain, but it's not the real problem.
Next, according to the keyboard.txt file in the docs the commands are supposed to be:
F11 + Num n: Save to slot n
F11 + R-Shift + Num n: Restore from slot n
F11 + F5: Open Load dialog
F11 + L-Shift + F5: Open Save dialog
First, the load and save state commands seem to be switched around: F11 + Num n always loads the stored state for me every time, while F11 + R-Shift + Num n saves (sometimes). F11 + F5 and F11 + Shift + F5 seem to do nothing at all, which is a pity since they are probably the most useful commands to me.
But the biggest problem is that while I can load saved states pretty much flawlessly, saving states only works occasionally. The state seems to save about 1 or 2 out of 10 tries. Half the time it does nothing at all, but the rest of the time it actually loads the previous state! This makes a potentially awesome feature into an unusable one.
I even went so far as to plug in a USB gamepad and used Controllermate to set up button combos to perform some of the keyboard commands. The benefit here is that I can either record my actual keystrokes to play back, or use a virtual keyboard to specify key combos. Using this method I have managed to set up button combos which will toggle fullscreen, let me load floppies into the 4 drive slots, load up to 6 states and (theoretically) save up to 6 states. All of these work except saving states, which loads states instead every time.
I have tried pressing the keys in every possible combination, swapping left and right shifts and no dice.
Is the save state feature pretty much broken? Does anybody have any advice?
Thanks!
Scott
