I think along the same lines as you grasstust. For me, Linux or OS X seems the natural successors to Workbench or just in general for Amiga lovers. Both OS's have something to love about them, a great community and that similar "love" about their usage as we all had in the Amiga.
I started off with a Windows 98SE PC after my A1200, then onto XP. XP is a solid OS. Nothing much to love about it but it does do everything that's asked of it in general. I moved to a Mac in 2006 finally after threatening for so long. I simply wouldn't go back for my personal computer. I love the style of the hardware, the speed of the OS and like Badders said the transparency of the OS. Don't get me wrong, it still annoys me from time to time but not in anyway like XP does. I have the misfortunate of using XP daily at work so I'm well used to it's foibles.
Leopard was another nice step up for me. Finder in Tiger pissed me off. It looked horrible, usage was average (give me DirWorks anyday
) but in Leopard Finder now works the way it should.
Amiga emulation is a little lacking compared to WinUAE but for general gaming E-UAE works. We just all need someone to pick up the development of E-UAE to take it to the next level as Richard Drummond seems to be off it.
I use my Mac mainly for music making, along with the normal stuff. XP or Vista could do it just the same but it somehow works better for me on OS X. Long may it stay that way.
