Music questions
« on: November 22, 2008, 05:40:16 PM »

Anyone know how to either combine several AMOS music banks in to one?  (I know it supports more than one tune in a bank, but the only tools I can find for editing music banks are the ProTracker/Sonix/etc. convertors) OR copy one bank to another, including all the header information?  I have several music tracks I want to switch between without having to stop and load them when they're needed and the closest I can come up with is Bank Swap but that means I have to do two swaps each time in order to keep the right song in the right position which just seems messy.

Alternatively, can you play AMOS music banks if they're not in slot 3?  (Or even better, is there an alternative ProTracker player extension that'll allow me to set the playback volume and play samples without screwing up playback like you can with AMOS music banks?)

Not sure I follow.  If I have 15 songs of varying lengths and join them all together, how do I then play, say, song 4?  I can't see a way of specifying an address in any of the music commands, so would I have to fiddle with the start/end addresses in the bank header?  How would I calculate the offset?  And what's the easiest way of merging them all in the first place, bearing in mind they'd all need their instruments remapping, looping points adjusted, etc?

On balance I'd probably prefer nicer ProTracker playback. :)  AMOS music banks don't support all the PT effects properly (especially anything that involves manipulating pitch), and even tempo seems to be problematic at times.  (Either that, or the conversion programs are poorly written, but I don't know enough about the internals of either music format to do anything about it.)

"nice" protracker playback can be achieved with the extension AMCAF (in downloads section i believe), and such functions as; PT PLAY, PT STOP, PT CONTINUE, PT VOLUME, PT VOICE etc and more. you can use this having loaded (i think) Protracker mods into any (and as many as you like) banks on AMOS, hopefully removing your problem.

personally i like MED format, but no one seems to have added advanced MED commands to any extension, and the ones built into AMOSpro are questionable.
