Re-arrange images in sprite bank?
« on: June 13, 2016, 01:55:41 PM »

Hey folks just got a quick question about Sprite banks,

I've got a few images loaded in already but before I go any further I'd like to know if it's possible to re-arrange the images within the sprite bank? Maybe swap around the numbers?

It doesn't make that much difference but I think I'd prefer things to be in a certain order like maybe intro images and healthbars first then players, baddies and 'in game' stuff later etc.

Thanks!

same advice i game before about ripping bobs from a sprite table applies ;)

i honestly thought there was a 'swap bob' command or something, but i cant find it in the manual.

The nearest i can get is using INS BOB to put blank bobs into the bank....

The BOB editor from Easy AMos will allow you to do this effortlesly the elites here will be disgugsted by my suggesstion and hiss as they jerk backwards but for your problem it is the simplest solution.

Now that you mention it, I think it was the Bob Editor (Easy/Original/Pro, they are all similar AFAIK) i was thinking of with the SWAP BOB option?

You are right, it's a simple way around it, but generally i have found the Bob editor less practical to use than DPaint. Of course, it does come down to what an individual finds most agreeable or productive.

However, I am very concerned by your comment here:

Can you let us know why you think there are "elites" here and to what you are referring?  If you have a legitimate concern, it's worth raising with site staff.

Most people here are looking to contribute to the site in a positive manner, and to offer guidance of what they have found to be good practice, experience, or in some cases, found knowledge from disassembly (or similar practices) of the AMOS program code. However, there is no hard-fast rule of "this is what must be done" and of course, everyone will come away with their own preferences.

Many of us have given up our own time to this forum for many years, and I like to think we treat all members, old and new, across a variety of Amiga topics, in equal measure.

I will say that the Forum rules clearly state "Treat all other members of the forum with respect.", so if you have a grievence with any forum members attitude, we would prefer it raised by way of PM, rather that the above types of comments being made, which could easily be taken in the wrong light.

Thanks for the replies folks. I didn't know you could do it in the object editor as it doesn't make it that obvious that it's possible. I'm glad it is though and will save me creating another bank! :)

@HungryHorace
I apologise no insult intended as this was not directed at any one individual.
I have just read some historic threads where one or two people came across a little arrogant but that is my own observation and i should have kept my opinion to myself.
Dont worry it wont happen again and if i have offended anyone with my comments i am sorry. :(

@Xertese -  No offense taken - it's undeniable that occassionally there are even users who moderators & admin have to 'tolerate', and who express opinions in a way that might not seem the friendliest!

We just want to make sure everyone gets the best they can from the forum, so it's always a bit of a concern when that type of view is raised, but no problem here i hope :)

Sometimes, I think this is in the nature of text rather than real-time communications.
It's difficult to convey a meaning in text, and lets face it many people don't want to type a book in reply, this IMHO is why some replies seem curt or arrogant.

The worst thing about the internet is that it is very difficult to seperate emotion from the words we write and read. We are left floundering, sometimes, in our interpretation of a comment or post, especially if it seems to conflict with our own opinion.

And it is so very easy, from a position of relative annonymity, to attack another person with a far greater level of vitriol then you ever would in real life.

This is endemic and insidious across the internet in all sites and now I feel, even creeping into social media. So, hey, we all love this programming language, right? This board is not exactly a 'hive of activity' but it's great to see all these people from across the world still helping each other and conversing.
