Missing AMOS Editor Logo
« on: September 21, 2013, 04:02:09 PM »

I have installed AMOS 1.35 onto my WinUAE setup, but when I launch the program, the logo which should be in the top left is missing (i.e. there is an empty black rectangle where the logo should be). I tried installing 1.1 & 1.2, both of which correctly displayed the logo, but froze whenever I tried to use the file selector to load an AMOS file.

Is the logo packed into the AMOS exe or is it in an .abk file somewhere?

I've sorted the logo issue by downloading and installing Amos v1.35. I have also updated that to 1.36, and run the v1.36 compiler update, but now when I launch Amos v1.36 it still shows the compiler extension as being v1.35. Is that simply a version numbering bug?

Hi Chalky

You have the very latest version which is exactly the same as mine.
Don't worry about the compiler version number, its a bug I think.
Anyway, also, don't forget to put 'Comp Test Off' as the first line in your code to get up to 30% speed increase in your compiled programs.

Hi chalky

I don't know AMOS The Creator all that well but the logo and all the graphics for the Editor and Accessories use the Interface sub-language.  The graphics for which are in various Resource*.abk  files.

Why not go straight to AMOS Pro V2.0?  You can get it at this Downloads page but this message has the basic installation info.  Also recommend the AMOS PD Release 2.0.

And copy the Sprite600 stuff from the V1.36 you've already installed.  There wasn't room in the Pro V2.0 release.  Gives you heaps to play and experiment with.

Dunno about the version number bit.  I wouldn't worry too much as the AMOS team did get a bit vague on version numbers  ;) .  (But I see KevG's just replied about that  8) ).

@KevG - thanks for that tip - I'm pretty sure I didn't know about that 22 years ago when I was using AMOS on my Amiga!

@bruceuncle - I actually have a fully working AMOS Pro 2 system on my A1200. I was having a nostalgic moment the other day and was trying to remember what AMOS was like before Pro, which is why I've loaded it onto WinUAE. Somewhere in my loft I've still got floppies of sourcecode which I plan to load into the emulator - although I fear my memories of how good the stuff I used to write was turns out to be somewhat different from the reality... :)

I have just been reminded how much I miss the simplicity of using an Amiga. Having got AMOS 1.36 setup and working on the emulator, I retrieved my AMOS 1.3 disks from the loft to do the same on my real Amiga. Rather than go through the install process again, I thought I'd try copying AMOS from WinUAE to my A1200 via a CF card. And it worked - just by copying 2 folders from one machine to the other! If only PC installations were that easy...

Is the 'Comp Test Off' thing to do with some extension or something?
As I tried it and notice no difference whatsoever?

On further examination "Comp Test Off" TOTALLY screws up dual playfield

DO NOT use it with Dual Playfield & compiler or you will spend ages wondering why it works in the interpretor and (DEFINITELY NOT!) in the compiler.
