Hi all!
« on: May 25, 2016, 06:04:25 PM »

Hi folks, just thought I'd introduce myself.

Been an Amiga gamer since 1989(ish) and just starting to get into the behind the scenes side of things. I've always wanted to make an Amiga game, particularly a brawler beat 'em up. I tried Devpac but 68k Assembly is just way out my depth and so today I got my first copy of Amos Pro 2.0 and am currently in the process of trying to follow the manual and learning what's what in order to do my game. I learn best by looking at examples so I'm hoping there's a few out there that I can load up.

I've been making games on Game Maker: Studio for the last couple of years but apart from that I've no coding experience at all.

I have a working A500 but I'm just using Amos on WinUAE at the moment as it's just more convenient. Vanilla A500 512k RAM settings as the limitations are where the challenge is! :)

That's about it. I've zero idea where to begin to even start my beat 'em up and I'll probably be asking loads of questions in the coming months so I hope you'll bear with me.

Cheers!

Thanks for the welcome.

Just discovered the Game Maker's Manual and it's far better than the actual Amos manual. For what I want to do anyway!

Smashing fun!

Hi Brick, and welcome to the forum.  If you haven't already done so, have a trawl through the downloads section for AMOS.  The AMOS Pro manual PDF by MadAngus is good value.  I have it up in Windows while I'm using WINUAE for AMOS.
AMOS Pro works best on a high-end Amiga when you're developing programs.  Then test on an A500.  I use an A4000 emulation then swap to an A500 to check compatibility and speed.  A hard disk install is more or less essential.
Note that the original manual has a few errors and one or two downright wrong entries.  That's what my project is gradually fixing up with rewritten help files, but it's a long project with over 1,000 instructions to document.  Also fixing the few bugs.  Eventual objective is an AGA version (AMOS Pro only uses the OCS capabilities) but that will be a while yet as maintaining backwards compatibility is a bit of a nightmare.
Above all have fun!
