Oubliette - Source
« on: April 21, 2016, 08:17:50 AM »

Hello,

The source code for my Oubliette has been added to AmiNET and is available for download here: http://aminet.net/package/game/actio/Oubliette_src

I spent a couple of days making sure it was pretty extensively commented, but if you would like clarification on any points feel free to ask.

Cheers!

Amiten - You're very welcome!

I didn't realise it has been posted there or on indieretronews - it's crazy how quickly it seemed to spread about. I have done a Google search and there are a lot more results than I was expecting.

I'm not worried about bad opinions, in fact, criticism is pretty important and the people who responded to me let me know about some bugs I could fix.

I think what is very interesting (baring in mind I am not a 'scene' member) is the high level of expectation. Despite clearly describing the game as an "8-Bit style arcade random dungeon crawl" which I think is accurate, people seem to be unhappy it is not a 16 bit style, all singing, all dancing AAA title as produced back in the 90's by teams of people. Also, some people seem to be fixated on the fact it's written in AMOS, or that is uses a Zelda sprite rip, or that my recommendation of WinUAE spec was quite high.

But despite all that, I am genuinely delighted that so many people have played it. I finished a game and people played it - that is a nice thing for me to feel.

Thanks for releasing the source code :)

As Amiten has said, don't worry too much about the EAB folks. There are alot of people on there that complain about games not being of a certain standard, or not enough new games being released, and yet they themselves do nothing about it!

P.S. I added it to the AMOS games section of www.AmigaCoding.com , I hope you don't mind.

Hi Lonewolf,

You're welcome and thank you for adding it into the Amiga Coding database, it is quite amazing to see how much it has spread around the internet.

I am not worried about what people on the internet say, as I said it is nice to have so much feedback. I was expecting it to sink without a trace but there are news articles about it on sites in German, French and Czech.

Nice you get like that, I canĀ“t say the same when I saw all the F..... feedback in EAB get my GAME The Dream Of ROWAN  http://www.amiftp.honor.es/rowan.html

and I agree with Lonewolf10 when say "There are alot of people on there that complain about games not being of a certain standard, or not enough new games being released, and yet they themselves do nothing about it!" Amen.

for sure not everyone are equals and get right some feedbacks but in my Case many years seeing how some amiga forum users are disgustingly stupid and was angry but not any more F... these non constructive feedbacks/people ROWAN Still ALIVE  ;D

all the best

I completely agree with and think it is a shame people can be so insulting on the internet. I have noticed the same attitudes starting to creep into social media too which is worrying... Will be become a world full of spiteful people eventually?

But anyway, I am too old and too ugly to care about it anymore, so I just ignore any nasty comments like they don't exist!
