Special Savestates
« on: November 23, 2006, 09:31:41 PM »

i'd like to compile another list here of any whdload installs which require registration, so i can make special front-ends for them, or any other smaller games which could be packaged together.

e.g.

Needs Registration;

Supremacy (done)
Moonstone (done)
Afterburner (done)
Pinball Dreams (done)

Compilations;

Cybernoid 1 / 2
Dungeon Master / Chaos Strikes Back
Bubble Bobble Trilogy (?)
Populous 2 & Challenge Game

Populous & Data Disks (done)
Sim City & Terrain Editor (done)
Bloodwych & Data Disk (done)

basically, i'll have to write some special AMOS programs to go with these, so i'd like to know what ones i will need to work on.

thanks for any input guys.

Thanks for the Shoutbox message Hungry Horace - I'll give it a try.

It seems Savestates are coming to PC's as the next generation are having 8gb flash built in!!

Happy new year guys.

huh?

anyway, re: pinball dreams, there is nothing you can do to fix it, aprat from registering WHDload and sticking the whdload.key  file onto an ADF with volume name "S:" or something....  even then, you'd have to let it re-start from within the savestate (not that difficult to do)

3 tables -should- be enough, although i'd always encourage people to register, and i will help them get the most out of their keyfiles.

North & South savestate is in my "to do" list i beleive... i know i made it once, so it'll probably be in the next set of uploads.

in the wake of the recent Moonstone requests, i have created a little AMOS frontend thing, for any games which are limited because of WHDload registration.

I've created some Supremacy Boot Disks, for anyone to look over (FOL, you may want to see what i've done here)

download here

edit... actually, i've improved my methods slightly by the time i did Pinball Dreams. You can download that here

I've also created a package for the frontend as a ZIP, this includes;

    WHDBoot.exe - the front-end itself

    2001.font & 2001/8  - the font used by the frontend, which needs to be located at a "WHD:" assign

    diskfont.library - required to be in LIBS: for it to run without a memory error

    execute - the WB command which must be in C: to run the script

    game-startup  -  a template game-startup script, this is what the frontend runs - leave it in the same place as the frontend itself

    system-configuration - place this on the boot disk, and DOS will use a black background - this makes things look a little nicer (no flicking to grey) when the fontend & whdload switch between one another.

so basically, the zip contains all the extra bits you may need in order to "bolt on" the frontend to any previous ram-install disks.

download here

the front-end looks like this:

i have also uploaded the Supremacy save-state for everyone to try out!

(check the  downloads section people!!)

Pinball Dreams savestate has now been updated to allow for registered WHDload users.

This has over-written the old file in the Downloads section.

i've also done the same with Afterburner 88 & 89, although im having problems with the gameplay in 89 (massive slowdown after hitting space) - but there's a lovely bonus feature on the front-end i think you will like!

pop into chat sometime, i'll send you the bootdisks, and we'll work on a decent configs etc, and test the extra features properly!
