Tank Wars Deluxe
« on: December 14, 2009, 10:52:41 AM »

Hello people,

I'm sure some of you (well, Horace) are aware of my efforts to get my project Tank Wars Deluxe finished and basically the graphics have been a major stumbling block for me. I had AB Positive over at EAB offer to help and I sent her some stuff but this was a couple of months back and she hasn't even logged in for a week which is unfortunate as I sent her a PM asking if she can get this done in fairly short order.

So I'm now assuming she isn't going to be able to and as there seem to be one or two creative types around here I thought I'd throw this out to you lot. Really I need graphics. Maybe a bit of music and sound effects too but graphics are the priority. And for personal reasons I wish not to discuss yet (it's a bit early, all will be revealed in due course) this needs to be finished and released by about mid to late February and not any later. In normal circumstances I wouldn't be in much of a rush but these aren't really normal circumstances so it needs to be done.

I need some tile graphics -16x16 pixels in 16 colours - for the game's maps and I need several different themed ones (i.e. desert, forest, arctic). There aren't very many and they need to be organised in a way that you can load a level with any theme and it will display fine. Also I need a few small power-up icons, and maybe some bullets and indeed some tanks (though not necessarily - I could go with what I've got - though a small explosion-type anim would be cool). Also not necessary but would look nice would be a small status panel at the bottom of the screen, and maybe a nice title screen too. None of it has to be spectacular by any means.

I know it's all a bit vague but anyone interested post here or contact me and I'd be happy to provide more details and game files too. You can find the original Tank Wars on Aminet if you need an idea of what it's all about.

This has suddenly become fairly important to me so if anyone could help I would massively appreciate it.

Thanks!

Well, I can't draw to save my life, but Dastardly over at EAB offered some help and he seems rather keen on doing something on the Amiga. I'll tell him about this thread and hopefully he'll help you :) Would be nice to see that game.

Hypothesis: Current scientific thought suggests we have already achieved max rocking level.

Perhaps max-rocking levels could be radically increased with creation of 30ft tall motion controlled guitar thrashing robot simulacrum.

Result: We rocked the f*ck out.

Thanks TCD, I would appreciate that and hopefully he will be able to help! I'm really determined to get this game out now, and as I say, the reasons for it will become clear soon enough.

Thanks Horace. It's always been a bugger trying to get people to help with graphics, I've noticed. Not a problem if you've got artistic ability of course...

And AB Positive has officially ruled herself out of this now too. So I mention it here, about how she hasn't been about for a week, and suddenly I hear from her. Funny how these things happen.

EDIT: Oh, and should things get moving I would, of course, be interested in writing one of those development diary thingies. Watch this space  ;)

Not really - it's basically just a single-screen multiplayer game where you shoot each other and last one standing wins. To be fair I should have metioned that in my original post I think...!

I also notice that on this forum links are impossible to distinguish from 'normal' text so if you click on Aminet in the original post you can download the original game to have a look at. But I'll put it here too: http://aminet.net/package/game/2play/TankWars

No sadly I'm also at work so no screenshots at the minute - but I'll take two or three later on. Be warned that it's not visually exciting...! But yes I agree it would help so people had a better idea of what it's about. Thanks!
