total noob is very lost :'(
« on: August 27, 2008, 12:02:42 PM »

hi there everyone.. i've been lurking for a while but this is my first time posting here, so hey to you all :3.

basically my problem is this, i recently got bought a slim PSP as a present as i've wanted one for ages considering i've seen people play all my beloved amiga games. however..i've been reading up for days and days on how to do it, and am still none the wiser. some say i need a pandora's battery, others say i dont. some say i cant play shop bought games while i have emulators on it and some say i can... and all these fancy words i keep reading only confuse me more. as good as i am with computers all this totally baffles me. ._. i am so lost.
all i know is my firmware version is 3.95 and my psp is slim, that's about it o.o;

can anyone here give me a black & white explanation of what i need to do..? i asked on youtube too, but no answer there. :( i hate seeming like a noob but i would love to sit there playing wizball on the bus XD, so if somebody could help me  i'll luff them forever <333
take care guys, hope to hear from you soon :3

Basically I can only refer to my own example. I have a PSP FAT and custom firmware 4.01 m33. I'm using PSPUAE 0.63 with RISS from the download section. I don't think it's an issue if you have original or custom firmware - PSPUAE has versions for both. If someone told you that you cannot play original games if you have emulators installed (installed! not running) then he lies or he's a dumbass. I'm not using the latest PSPUAE version because most RISS where made with 0.62-0.63. RISS are "special amiga roms" which are loaded into your PSP RAM when you chose the Load State in PSPUAE. You keep them in the STATE folder (.asf) and CONFIGS folder (.config). They are available in the Download section.

You still can use the classic .adf roms. Sure. But you would have to play around with PSPUAE configurations for the game to play nicely. I'm to lazy for that so I use RISS which are kind of "plug and play" roms ;) . For installation instructions refer to the readme files in your PSPUAE installation package.

RISS not really a rom (Read Only Memory), because it's a snapshot of ram! (it's an 'equivalent' of a console rom)

ADF (Amiga Disk File) is not a rom either, because it's a disk image!

sorry to correct you SoczI, but I do find i have to mention that, as otherwise it leads to confusion regarding the -actual- Amiga ROMs also known as; the Kickstart (aka, the BIOS)

also, the 0.62/0.62 RISS shoud work fine on pspuae 0.72 ... although you will want to adjust a few settings like frameskip, to fix the speed.

@ mahoro_san

FOL is quite right, there is confusion here, you need custom firmware, or firmware 1.50 to run PSPUAE, and it wont work with the original (Sony) Firmware.

With custom firmware, yes, commercial games and homebrew/emulators can be run on the PSP, and a Pandora Battery is probably the best way (only way?) to get Custom Firmware onto Slim PSP

I'm sure FOL will explain it all in great detail by PrivateMessage.

Good luck with your amiga psp, bet you cant wait now ;)

not sure these days, but it might be an idea to check your psp motherboard type with it being a slim, especially if its newish.

kind of lost track, as to wether or not all psp's motherboards are pandora compatible, maybe someone knows more.

It's just a thought, I've never encountered these weird new motherboard types personally, so I tend to overlook them, but they must exist, just make sure your psp's motherboard is compatible with pandora deluxe ect.
