Comp Pro USB / Microswitch
« on: March 18, 2008, 03:10:33 PM »
Okay, I've got a cheese sarnie and a small problem I'll bring here first. Noticed the upper-left diagonal movement wasn't responding properly (if at all sometimes) when playing platformers etc. Found it in both Vice and E-UAE, so I reckon it's the stick. Used to work fine, but now...

Opened it up, and nothing looked amiss. The 'left' microswitch does seem more worn that the other 3, but I rarely poke about inside these things.

Simple questions. Anyone had it happen with the same stick - it's USB one via amigakit. Any other possible causes? And Where might I get a replacement microswitch? I had a quick google, checked Maplin, etc. Couldn't see one that matched directly. I'm not into electronics so any tips would be greatly appreciated.

This is the offending innards... switch on the bottom left.

Did you just try it in E-UAE, or have you tested it in other emulators/games also?

Microswitches are easily switchable. Just try switching them around first and see if the problem shifts to another direction, then you know it's the switch. Let us know how it works out, I might be able to help you out with a microswitch...

I originally noticed it in VICE, then tried a few games in E-UAE. Seemed unlikely to be general Mac problem.

Smart suggestion, I switched the left and right microswitches expecting the fault to move with it. But it's actually cleared it up - most likely temporarily, but fingers crossed for now. I'm wondering if there is a very minor alignment discrepancy with the 'left' one. So after some wear and tear it had trouble. Might be something else, as the little switch part seemed a tad more wobbly, but for now I'm happy. Will see how long it lasts. They really stick them things in tight there - had to get me pliers involved.

Thanks for putting on your problem solving cap.
