Hello all,

I thought AMOS was dead and nobody was using it anymore.  I am very happy to find this site and see that I was wrong.

I am a long time Amiga collector and user that is now finding more time to explore and enjoy all those treasures that I have been collecting over the last 18+ years.  I used an Amiga almost exclusively from 1987 to 1991 or 1992, but never had the time to fully learn all I wanted to know about such an amazing computer.

It is great to see that I still have a chance to learn, before those with some of the old Amiga knowledge have all gone away.

I have a couple full copies of AMOS Professional, one copy of Easy AMOS, a couple of AMOS books, a cover disk that claims to have the full version of AMOS 3D on it and probably a few other AMOS related items.  Currently recovering from surgery, so I have some extra time to read and maybe do some programming (if only I had an Amiga laptop to use from my bed).

I look forward to sharing some time here and learning as much as I can from those of you who have been "around" for a while.

There are still a few of us AMOS programmers around and we'd certainly love to help you learn anything you want to know about AMOS and the Amiga.

I'm sorry to hear about your surgery, but at least it gives you an excuse to play with your Amigas.  And while there are no Amiga laptops, there are ways emulate an Amiga on a Windows laptop.  If you have one you may want to take a look at Amiga Forever or WinUAE.

Amiga Forever is a commercial package that has all you need to emulate an Amiga on a PC.

WinUAE is one of the emulators used by Amiga Forever and it is free, but you'll need to do crazy things like rip ROMs images from one of your Amigas and transfer them to the PC to make it work.

I use a G4 Powerbook most of the time as the wife has taken over the Windows laptop, and my old 533mHz Celeron laptop that has my AmigaForever installed on it is literally falling apart at the LCD hinges.  When this G4 dies (again) I will probably get a new MacBook which will run WinXP, OSX and AmigaForever/WinUAE/Amikit!

Does AMOS Pro run okay under WinUAE?  I thought it might not because I assumed AMOS hits the hardware so often that it may cause trouble.

Actually, AMOS works quite well on WinUAE.  I haven't had trouble with it (as long as I use a hardfile that is smaller than 2GB).

On the other hand, perhaps something like E-UAE (OS X), MaxUAE (OS X), or MacUAE  (OS 9) would work on your G3?  They should be able to use the Amiga Forever ROMS.

But a multi-booting MacBook would really rock!

I have been trying for 3 days to get E-UAE working on my G4 1gHz Powerbook, with and without Hi-Toro, with and without MaxUAE, with no luck.  Very frustrating!  I wish there were a better guide for how to get it all configured and running.

Thanks for all the links to help.  I am slowly figuring it out and have E-UAE running now, but still need to adjust the configuration more.  I have AmigaOS 3.1 running from a Workbench3.1 adf in DF0:.  I have been having trouble with getting the hard disk file to show up so I can install the OS to it and start booting from the hard disk file.  Then I can install AMOS Pro.  I am able to see a folder on the Mac where I can put the AMOS Pro lha files in, so I am confident that I can install AMOS Pro after I get a hdf set up with the AmigaOS installed.

Should I stay with AmigaOS 3.1 or go all the way to installing AmigaOS 3.9 w/Boing Bags 1 & 2?

Currently using 68040, AGA chipset, 2mb Chip, 32mb Z3 Fast.

I am really close to having it working, I can feel it.

Soon I will be programming in AMOS Pro on my Powerbook!  Yea!

Remember that the hard file you create for AMOS must be less than 2GB or the AMOS installer will fail.

I wouldn't worry about installing OS3.9 if you're just going to use it for programming in AMOS.  But if you'll be using the OS often, then go for it.

Let us know when you're up and running or if you have any other questions.

Finally setup E-UAE and manually moved AOS3.1 files to an added directory to boot from, or maybe it is AOS3.5?  Workbench = 45.xx and Kickstart = 45.xx, all files and folders were copied from AmigaForever v6 (temp misplaced v2005).

I have installed all 6 disks of AMOS Pro v1.0 and I am off to upgrade all the way up to v2.0 now.  I had trouble with disk 1 and ended up copying files manually and then moving them around until the program would run.

I'll be writing some AMOS Pro code by tomorrow after I upgrade and do some reading from my Ultimate AMOS book tonight. :-D

Well, I can't get AMOS Pro v1.12 or v2.0 to install on my Powerbook emulated Amiga.  The error message is always at the writing stage after the files have unpacked.  I guess I am going to have to get Diskmaster 2 on to my Mac and loaded to look at the files and which packing program is used and try to unpack and load the files manually.

Any one know which packing program AMOS Pro used? :-?

None as far as I know.  The way you get AmosPro to install is to mount the hardfile or directory but boot from the first disk image and then use the disk switcher to switch disks as it asks for them.  Also, since the disk image of AmosPro is designed for Workbench 1.3 it may be necessary to either use a directory as a mounted drive or make sure the hardfile is the original filesystem.  On my Linux partition it was preferable to mount a directory as a hard drive so I could access files from outside the emulator so I suspect the Mac OSX will be similar.

I have tried many different E-UAE settings, including running OS 1.3 and the slow, cycle exact 68000.  I did boot from the floppy adf image as you suggested.

It helped a little, but I still only made it through two unpack, read, write cycles in the installer before it choked again.  So now I have some files updated to AMOS 2.0 while the rest are still the original AMOS 1.0 files.

I'm off to try again with a few different E-UAE settings.

Okay, I give up!  Time to move some items out of the way, set up one of the Amigas and install AMOS Pro on it and then copy all of the files and directories to a ZIP disk and transfer them to the Powerbook.

I must have tried at least 20 different settings on E-UAE and still could not get past the update where the AMOS_Compact.lib file begins to get written to the hard drive.

Hello all,

I too am a returning Amiga user. I have not bought another machine, but I am emmulating on a laptop, so I can take my Amiga where ever I go. I have recently installed AMOS Professional, and I use WINUAE for my emulation, via Amiga Forever...brings back memories.

Now I'm scrambling to get my old 4000 back to life, it green screens upon bootup. It will, however, bootup to a floppy game disk. I am looking for an OS floppy to boot from that, as I can't manage files from the game boot.

I'm presently looking for a way to retrieve my code and data from Syquest cartridges and get this info into my laptop.

Hope to post more and to get to know my new Amiga friends.
