PSP guide help
« on: June 08, 2011, 04:20:33 PM »

Hi and thanks in advance for any help  :) I have a psp 3003 and psp 1004 which I was going to try and use the psp1004 for mobile retro gaming. I'm sure I read that the psp1000 would be easiest to do, so I picked one up the other day in great condition  :) I shall list a couple of question and hopefully you wont mind helping out. If there's any links which I have missed feel free to point them out. Thanks  :)

1, The psp1004 has a firmware of 3.11 should I upgrade this? To use the latest version of pspuae, thought I read it should work on any version! but I'm also hoping to put other retro stuff on it.

2, If I put other retro stuff on it do I have to go down the road of hacking my psp and get a Pandora battery and a Magic memory stick?

3, minimum size of memory stick?

If there's anything else I should be thinking about?

Thanks again  :)

1. pspuae is signed so it works on EVERY  frimawer version,
2.  if u r planning to run other emulators that are NOT signed then i suggest u to flash ur psp to 5.00 or above cfw, making pandora, multi ipl laoder and ohter cool stuf is maximum a one hour of work
3. if ur plannig ONLY retro gaming like emulators then u dont need more than 500 MB but i suggest u to get 4GB or more

suggest u a battery mod so u can play more than 3-4 hours on psp

better think about about pspvita coz the old psp is lame for emulating anything bigger than c64

i can only do a quick reply right-now, but FOL can hopefully help with the detail

1 - I think 3.11 should be "easier" to get onto the custom f/w than later versions. I would recommend you go straight to custom f/w and avoid any official upgrades entirely, particularly if this is only a secondary PSP.

2 - Most emulators etc, afaik, are not available signed. As above, i think custom f/w is the way to go if this isnt your only PSP.

3 - totally your choice, but every 8/16 gb cards are not so expensive from sites like amazon etc now.

4 - bare in mind, that with the 1000 model you can, as karol briefly mentioned, make your "own" Pandora battery from the 1000 battery, entirely using software - this can then be converted back .... I'm not sure if you still need another already-hacked PSP to do this (I did with mine, but it was new back then!!) or if you can do do this with PC software etc via the USB. Hopefully FOL can advice here.

Good luck!

Aye,

As both Horace and Karol pointed out.

I would install custom firmware (5.50 GEN 5, If I recall) on your 1000.
I dont use my old 1000 anymore. I use my Go! more now.

With your 3003, you could update that to the latest firmware (6.39, which can be hacked).
You can also use it on PSN. Im currently running my Go! on 6.20 with a version spoof of 6.39.
PSN doesnt seem to mind, :).

Not all versions of PSPUAE are signed. There is one in the downloads section that is.
However its not as fast as non signed beta 13.

For all your custom firmwares, goto PSP HACKS

Hi Thanks all for your reply's,

I'll take a look over at psp hacks.  Is it relay "old psp is lame for emulating anything bigger than c64"  would I be better off using my psp3000?  I would like to have 8bit and 16bit games.  As for my 3000 I updated the firmware tonight to 6.39, if I used this for pspuae would that be better and not knacker it, will I still be able to use it for all my psp games.

"Not all versions of PSPUAE are signed. There is one in the downloads section that is. However its not as fast as non signed beta 13".

?the signed version does that mean no hacking needed, just install? and would that mean I would need a custom firmware for the non signed? I may be completely off the ball here, which in that case apologies  :)

As for the PSP Vita will definitely be getting one of them  ;D

Thanks Again

Don

I downloaded 2 free games yesterday on my outdated firmware with my Go!. Store didnt complain.
All my games work fine.

Yes Signed means it will work on any psp firmware including official firmware.

Theres no difference at all between psps models. Only extra mem and stuff like pause games.

Thanks Fol

I'm just over at psp hacks, going over the tutorials. Have downloaded 5.50gen-d3 and a psptool for soft modding battery, which I'm trying to load but says cant load game? so may try re-downloading it, if all-else fails I could do a hard modde, just watch tutorial, looks straight forward  :) Or if there's a reputable UK seller may buy one. But think I'll call it a night.

All the best :)

It wont load because, you need a hacked psp.

Dont update your 1004, look for hacks to allow you to install custom firmware.
I would have to have a look around, aint had to hack my psp for a long time.

Hi, I didn't think I was updating my 1004, I was just trying to soft mode my battery into a pandora battery, to allow me to install the custom firmware, gen 5.50,

Is this not what I should be doing?  I won't do anything for now, I'll just do a bit more looking around see what the options are.

All the best :)

I just updated my PSP 1000 yesterday to the brandnew custom firmware 6.39 ME-5 to get the free psn-games. Had a brief shock after I formatted my memory stick, started the updater and my PSP wouldn't start after that! Even the Pandora menu wouldn't appear! Fully fullbrick!

It took me a while before I realized that this was no issue of the update but because I killed my magic memory stick in the formatting before! Whew!  ;D ;D ;D
(Don: I use my Pandora battery as the normal battery. PSP works normally if you also have a magic memory stick inserted. If it's only a normal MMS, PSP will not start).

I prepared the MMS again and everything was fine again.

Hi

I've downloaded and tried to install pspuae onto my 3003, but cant seem to get any games to load? I get the pspuae screen and when I start it, it goes to the next screen showing pspuae A500, then to a black screen with the boxes in the top right corner, after 10 seconds it turns off the psp.

can someone tell me what I've done wrong?

Thanks :)
