I want to create a RISS... Wish me luck :)
« on: November 11, 2011, 06:56:18 PM »

I want to try and workout how to make a RISS install, I think it really stumped me last time, either that or Life got in the way of me working it out :), but I'm determined to herd the old grey matter in the right direction :) I want to try and RISS these:

Dungeon Master
Heroquest
Heroquest Legacy of Sorasil
Knightmare (the Mindscape one)

If i'm successful can I send them you (Horace or FOL) to test and we can maybe upload them if they're good enough. Might be a while tho, as I need to learn a bit about the Amiga first as I only used my real A500 to play games and use Dpaint :)

Last time I tried I think we were on Beta 0.63, since then we've had the Fame C core beta and upto 0.80 on the test Betas, I'm currently running 0.80 v19 what version would you recommend to create the RISS in?

Also I'll be sticking to:
Kickstart 3.0/1.3 (depending on the game)
68000
OCS

Would it be best to stick to these to try and keep as universal as possible, unless these settings stall the RISS?

I suppose speed management and sound options etc would be best tweeked when testing the RISS for performance too.

Anyway, going to dig out my old notes I kept somewhere and I'll try and have a go this weekend If I get time. :)

Thats great, :).

I will see if I can dig out one of mine and one of Horace's, so you can see how we done them.
I think I have them all uploaded, I could give you FTP access to that folder, if you want.

Had a quick look, couldnt see them on server. Will check my home server.
Failing that, I will remake one just for you, :).

Im also considering releasing current beta 20.
Then I will continue working on next beta / release as everything seems to be working fine like it did in 0.72, but with lots more speed, :).
Im hoping to push out another FAME version, just cause Im curious to see how fast that is with the recent speed increases. Just having toolchain issues with it at the moment. I also think an update was done on the FAME core.

Thanks FOL, there's no rush for the installs yet, I'm trying to immerse myself in the workbench anyway, got one of Horace's walkthroughs from a while back and although it's not as detailed as I need it's actually helping me by making me experiment to figure stuff out. Currently I'm trying to make an ADF bootable and failing a bit at the mo! :D

In CLI type "install df0:" that will right the bootblock to adf floppy.
In WinUAE, you can make a bootable floppy from the menu.

Done a new workbench CLI was missing from my original one for some reason, but the install command now works from both Shell and CLI, when I did the original install, two of the wb disks came up with missing items during install, made a schoolboy error and just ignored it hehe. :)

Yay! just created my first RISS, it unpacked into ram straight from the ADF! Just need to test it on the old PSP now. It was all pretty straightforward, the hardest bit was working out which bits I needed to install in e-uae, and to get WHDload running properly, especially as i was using ipf files. Need to clear a mac desktop catalogue file off there too as it merrily inflated that aswell lol! Not getting too carried away tho, as, knowing my luck it'll need a lot of cajoling to work on my PSP... :D

FOL, which version of PSPUAE should I test this against? Bearing in mind I'll have to dig out my old PSP Fat, cus I've been using the newer beta on my official firmware PSP slim... :)

Hi FOL, i've tested my Knightmare RISS on beta 0.80 r19 and got it working nicely, just some stuttery sound in the intro, sorted the main keymapping out and saved the config, can I send it over for you guys to test?

I've had to deviate from a standard setting as it won't run in OCS or on 68000, so adjusted it to ECS and 68020. hope that's ok. :D

Try to stick to ECS, 68K and 3.0 kickstart.
Obviously some stuff requires you to use higher CPU (i.e. CD32 Frontier).

Check your pm.
