How do you use P-UAE
« on: December 24, 2011, 08:47:51 PM »

1st post, so go easy! I post elsewhere under a different guise.

I've experimented with P-UAE in the post using it in Hi-Toro on OS X with some success. I never found it much better if at all better than E-UAE for games. It may have higher compatibility, but all the games I play work just fine in E-UAE.

Now logic says P-UAE should be better, of course, but I'm not seeing it.

How are you running it and saving configs? Within Hi-Toro or running direct? Am I missing out on all the benefits by just using it for games and not Workbench emulation?

Love to hear your workings.

P-UAE incorperates alot of WinUAE changes.
It also includes Gnostics speedier code for blitter etc etc.

I would say using it for just games aint going to show any benefits.

Fair enough.

Messing around with configs last night, I found that with the sound chip disabled games run at a full frame rate. With sound emulated, everything gets jerky again. My thinking was that the jerkiness was down to the refresh rates of monitors not being synchronised with the 50hz of old outputs but this changed my opinion.

Now to get everything running smoothly with sound!

Depends on your system too. PSPUAE can run full speed with no sound.

Hi there.

it is advised you do not use Hi-Toro for P-UAE i believe, but instead create configs from scratch with the minimum number of options set. The linux version has a GUI i think, and maybe the OSX version a limited GUI? It may depend on the build options.

What build of P-UAE are you using? There have been many updates by gnostic, to such an extent that I have not been able to keep up with the changes myself.

http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=62054

2.4.0 appears to be the last version, but i have yet to see a build for OSX.

There should be benefits to using P-UAE for games, such as fixes to joystick/joypad code etc which have bugs in the last version of e-uae.... whether you notice these however depends on how you are using it i guess though.

I've only ever had success really using it as an a500 emulator, and limited at that - sadly I dont have time to play-around with it like i used to.

Thanks for your replies.

I've been using 2.3.2 build and since the earlier posts having much more success with it and using it mainly for gaming still, AGA as well. It's certainly better than E-UAE but not massively. Have managed to get Super Stardust AGA working properly for the first time, which I always had issues with on E-UAE.

Moved away from using Hi-Toro with it and just using configs I've been editing in TextEdit. Works nicely.

Over and above it's just nice to have an active branch of the UAE code on OSX and Linux.
