AMOS Pooyan!

Afternoon all,

Following the help from Hungry Horace in this thread:

it's given me a much better understanding of how the program structure of a game should work. Plus, it's shown me how to pull in graphics/sprites made in an art package as opposed to the AMOS sprite editor.

I've coded-up Phil South's 'Rainbow Ping', from his book "Mastering Amiga AMOS", and am starting to use portions of that code to get me started on an Amiga conversion of Konami's 1982 arcade classic 'Pooyan'.

How far I'll get it anyone's guess, but I'm having fun.

If/when I have something decent to show I'll give an update.

I'd recommend that you don't hold your breath as my time is limited, as is my knowledge of AMOS.

I've not had chance to tinker more with this over the past couple of weeks. Currently I've got the background graphics from level one into AMOS, and have the player pig sprite moving up and down.

I need to re-draw the sprite, as it's not made the transfer from MAMEOSX to Preview to Personal Paint to AMOS too well. I can go back and tidy that up later.

I think the next bit I need to do is get the rope that's attached to your player sprite onscreen and working properly.

You and me both. I hardly get much time at all these days, but I tinker when I can.

Don't worry about it. My projects take anything from 1 month to around 1 year to complete (not including those that are on "pause" right now).
Take your time and have fun doing it. If you get really stuck on anything there are a few people here that can help you ;)

Afternoon all,

It'll probably come as little surprise to learn that progress on this has been non existent since I last posted.

The 1200 had to have a cap replacement, then I upgraded the hard disk and file system. Following that I had an issue with -12v not getting to the PCB, and this weekend I had the machine apart to put in the new Indivision Mk2.

As I've had little chance to tinker on AMOS over the past couple of months I've had to start re-familiarising myself with it all.

I may have some (not related to Pooyan) basic animation coding questions to post up in the next few days.

I'm still having fun, (which I suppose is the important thing) but not getting very far. Hopefully now that my 1200 is fully up and running again I can finally start to make some progress with something.

I'm glad that you got your A1200 back up and running again. I miss using my real A600's. I will have to do something about that when I get some spare time :)

Still no further progress on this at the moment.

Last night, after many months away from AMOS, I sat down and tinkered a bit on another chunk of code (for a non Pooyan related project) in an effort to re-familiarise myself with the language.

It proved to be a useful couple of hours, and I may end up using one or two of the routines in my Pooyan remake.
