    Hey guys,

I have an issue with further coding because the limitation of the text editor buffer in the interpreter.  When I went into the menu and selected Set Interpreter to configure it, I received the configuration menu screen but it says it cannot find configuration file and I cannot do anything with it at all. So I was looking, pulling my hair and I finally found the file under config_backup folder or some such and the file name have the extension .backup on it. So I loaded it and set the buffer text to higher than just 32 KB (which is very limiting for what I need)...unfortunately after saving it and setting it...it asks me to reboot AMOS to take effect...when I reboot it..nothing happens..no changes happens. I decided to save it as a different file and try to call it even interpeter_config.config and still nothing...after reboot. No changes take effect at all.

I decided to go under the menu and click set it as default configuration...i receive a prompt message saying are you sure...and I say yes and still to no avail...still fails...after reboot. I even said save it as a configuration under the menu and it ask me where to place it and what to call it and clicked on the menu set as default configuration and when I rebooted amos...still it fails and takes no effect what so ever.

I am frustrated because my development is completely at halt now...as I can no longer type anymore and continue in my game making. Please anyone here can help me will be great on this....right now as simple as dealing with the configuration in AMOS have prevented me from further developing my game...:(

What I do is go to the Config->Set Interpreter .

Once the Interpreter Setup screen opens, I click the "Load Default Configuration" button.  Then I click on the "Set System Configuration, Page 2" button.  On the page that loads, I move the slider next to "Default text buffer size (K.Bytes)" so that it's set to 64.  Then I click the "Exit" button, and then, on the main page, I click the "Save Configuration" button.  I get the "Reboot AMOS Professional to use the new settings..." message box, and click "Ok".  Finally I click the "Quit" button and select the AMOS->Quit menu option.

When I restart AMOS and go back to the configuration settings the text buffer has indeed changed to 64k.

Are you booting AMOS from a hard drive or from a floppy?  If from a floppy, is it a copy of the system disk and is the write protection tab open?

What I do is go to the Config->Set Interpreter .

Once the Interpreter Setup screen opens, I click the "Load Default Configuration" button.

I get an error saying cannot load default configuration or cannot find default configuration or some such. It fails when I click this button.

Are you booting AMOS from a hard drive or from a floppy?  If from a floppy, is it a copy of the system disk and is the write protection tab open?

My problem with the first step and my problem with the second step. Both steps you mentioned does not work no matter how much I try. For one thing, when I quit AMOS (from HDD not from floppy disk) and restart it again it fails. No loading configuration works at all no matter how hard I reboot it and load it. The load default fails because it cannot find it and I have to keep on clicking Load from other configuration and then select the xxxx.backup file name with that extension. Another problem, when I say set this as the default and it asks me to reboot....and I reboot AMOS and come back nothing happens...no changes have being done or made. Also I set the buffer to 2 MB not 64KB...I need more than 64 KB...I need the maximum possible.

Do I need to properly install AMOS again? Can you send me a link to all...and I mean ALL THE UPDATE to date bells and whistles AMOS floppy disk installation...that when I install it...it have like more than 6 extensions (exaggerating but to proof my point) of everything, everything...all..all.all bells and whistles installation (proper installation disk) so I can reinstall AMOS again? Like to a point that if I write something on the interpreter I can have the typing sound effect, deleting sound effect, sound of dialog box...full package. Maybe if I do it this way I will no longer have problems or something.

As far as know there is no specific system-maximum text buffer size, just don't run your system out of memory.  If the default configuration isn't found, try saving your current configuration as the default configuration, flawed though it is, and then it should be possible to do as Sidewinder suggested.

The default configuration on my system is saved in AMOSPro_System:APSystem/AMOSPro_Editor_Config

Do you have that file in that location on your system?  The size of the file on my system in 18888 bytes.  I'm not sure if it will be the same size on your system, but I'm assuming that it should be somewhere around 18k.

If you don't have that file in that location, try saving your current configuration there and naming it AMOSPro_Editor_Config.  That way it should be seen and loaded automatically by AMOS during boot.

Thanks :)

I decided to re-install everything again from scratch from floppy disk and things are roaring like lion :) Including all the fancy sound effect. What i want to do is download all the extensions from this website and see if I can load them all...that would be super cool if I could...or if I am limited to 12 that sucks :( then I have to be very choosy at that point.

Update about my game: Progressed very well...in a week all the level design (AI already completed) and the game will be complete. After that I will simply focus hundred percent on polishing the game with title, sound, story, animation, cut scene, blah blah blah blah blah blah...that perhaps may take the longest :)

Aaarrgh!  Don't do it!  I mean, download them by all means, but DON'T try loading them into AMOS all at once.  Some of the extensions have problems in that the authors haven't followed the rules for writing an extension.

There are 26 extension 'slots' in AMOS Pro.  Some extensions MUST go into their appointed 'slot' to work properly.  That's why there are 26 'slots' - so that there's no conflict if you want to use, say, a couple of favourites.  It's not intended that you load all the 'slots' at once ;) .  Also, be aware that the AMCAF extension uses a modified version of amos.library which may or may not be compatible with other extensions.

There's some tech stuff on the extensions here.  In that bundle there's a brief run down of each extension (in a text file) as to whether it looks to be stable or not.

One question. What is the best extension for gaming? The best extension that gives cool new features that make game development easier, better, powerful and allows you to easily exploit all the cool media stuff and effects and visual effects out of your Amiga computer? I will simply download that extension instead.

Sadly, the one you want is also the least compatible: AMCAF.  If you can find Turboplus registered, it's almost as good.

Hungry Horace says he uses AMCAF without any problems.  Just avoid some of the extra graphics capabilities like splinters, rainbows and such.  Hungry Horace could give you a better answer as he's using it.

He's also done some work on the Power Bobs extension (removed the nag screen) so you might want to look at that too (thanks Hungry Horace - keep it up!).

I'm hoping  that some people might pick up the initial work I did on the extensions with a view to sorting out the good from the bad and fixing them up.  Upgrading to the 2.xx library standards would also be worthwhile.  It's just too much for me to take on until my current workload is out of the way.  Any offers people?

Power Bob Extension? What is that about?

PowerBobs extension allows CPU blitting of BOBs thus saving the blitter for other operations that it can do better, such as pasting opaque icon images.  It probably requires an 020 or better.

Does that mean it will be faster performance based on the power of the CPU? I like the concept a lot.
