Player Manager by Dino Dini (Anco)
« on: November 05, 2015, 02:08:54 PM »

Hi there,

recently got a psp basically to play some old Amiga games - thanks so much for all your work - you are totally awesome! So I've got the SWOS, Stunt Car racer, Batman and SuperCars 2 RISS and am really enjoying them. The only other game I am desperate to play is Player Manager but I am struggling to get it to run at a decent speed. Is there any chance you could have a look? No worries if you're too busy and thanks again for letting me relive so many fond memories from my youth.

Cheers,

ritchie

had a fiddle with the settings so it's running great! you guys rule!

really glad you got it working well!

is there a lot of disk swapping / game loading?  at 3 disks i assume thats a bit annoying, but probably means we could create a RISS for it....

Hi Hungry Horace,

Thanks for replying, I feel like I'm being spoken to by a programming God!

Player Manager is only 1 disk (although you have to insert a blank formatted disk for it to save). There was a really poor sequel and even though it was called Player Manager (2) you could only manage and not play the game as well - maybe that's the 3 disk version you're thinking of?

I was basically addicted to this game like it was crack when it first came out, happiest days of my life! To get it to run 'almost' perfectly I tinkered with frameskip and chip set ratio - do you think it's worthwhile changing any other settings like RAM or the version of kickstart or should I just quit while I'm ahead as it's totally playable as it is?

cheers,

No, ram and kickstart won't give you any speed boost, so you've picked well!

You're right - I must have looked at the HOL entry for PM2.  Still... If there is in-game disk access, that loading time can be reduced with a RISS.

If I get free time over the week I'll have a look, just out of curiosity!!

Thank you for the kind words, but certainly no coding legend here ;)
Just a very keen Amigan!!

That'd be great but no worries if you have better things to do. I should warn you that it takes about 10 minutes for the Amiga to create all the players for a new game!

I started out by using the save disk but the saves started disappearing so I'm using RISS now which is working like a charm.

Thanks again for making all this possible for even a total noob like me!
