I have had a re-think about how to approach my editor, Book of Skulls, BEXT2 and the general re-sourcing efforts.
In order to achieve the end-goal i want, it's seeming quite likely that a re-compiled source (thank's to BruceUncle) is more likely to achieve what i want in terms of game extras for Book of Skulls, and ultimately BEXT2.
I will adapt my editor to read in as much data as possible from the original games, but i am going to have to draw the line somewhere in terms of what hacks it adds into the game. (e.g. adding in all my new communication elements has proved a nightmare)
As such, i'm thinking both BW and BEXT could have 'enhanced' versions, with a few extra niceity's thrown in, and my editor could simply support those versions - for example, having more than 8 colours in each large monster.
I'll then only need a small edit to add in some 'Book of Skulls' specific elements. (this is relying on some nicely compilable code from Bruce!)
Perhaps any of the game players (madmunky and others!) could have a think about what simple and minor enhancements could be brought to the games, using what is already there.
At the moment, i'm working on a new avart set for BEXT 2, so that those 2 or 3 characters who never got used (Ulrich, Eleanor, Hengist) can have their heads used as recruitable monsters.
As you can see (attached) Hengist wasnt re-colourable before.... this is now fixed
I'm also thinking of things like 'data block for centrally placed chracters' (like zendick) which can be easily edited, rather than them relying on specific code.
