Hey folks,

I've been getting back into AMOS after a while away but I'm still very much a noob. With that in mind I'm finding certain aspects of AMOS, in particular the extensions a little confusing. It's down to the fact that there doesn't seem to be much direct information on them for people like me. I don't wish to sound rude, that is not my intention as I fully appreciate the time and effort people take to provide these tools, but wouldn't it be nice to have a little description in the downloads section about what each extension actually does/what number slot it goes in? At the moment it's just basically what it's called, who uploaded it and when and the download link.

The most I've found is a list on amigacoding.com but the comments are quite vague and not easily understandable. I know there is an info file which comes with the extensions but I can't seem to be able to read it and the help files in AMOS doesn't seem to mention extensions at all.

I apologise once again if this comes off as a little rude, I know that it must be easy to seasoned users of the program but a few tiny descriptions on the downloads page and maybe a sticky on here about how to actually install and load extensions would make all the difference to new users as there doesn't seem to be anything like that readily available, even in the official manual.

I may of course be looking in all the wrong places so if I've completely missed something really obvious then please feel free to correct me and point me in the right direction.

yes agreed, it seems like such a waste of time for every interested user to have to do all the research them selves. I got into AMOS again about a year ago and I've had a chance to review/test only 5 five of the extensions, 3 of which I no longer use, so I got put off researching any other extensions. They are written by 3rd parties and not always of the same quality as AMOS.

I use TURBO (or is that that TURBOplus - it does get confusing) and the EasyLife extension.

I did attempt to review the plugins, but there isn't anywhere to document properly what the results were...

My suggestion is that more than just a comment about the extension a wiki needs creating, then when someone actually does some work on these it can get stored and become useful for the next researcher... I can add what I've done but can't manage the wiki on my own.

For example - It's not Amos Professional, but I backported the 1.55 music extension from EasyAmos to Amos The Creator and it seems to be playing music better... and I need to tell the world...

I'd quite happily help do some sort of wiki or even write descriptions about the extensions but I really have very little clue about what they do myself.

I think the fact that AMOS is still going in 2017 with fairly strong support and even updates and new add ons is amazing. It's a very beautiful and comfortable programming suite (it feels like an ancestor of Game Maker but for the miggy) so why not capitalise on that for new users?

yes it could do as it is a standard wiki system, but there are a few things to think about first and i'm personally against the idea - there is already some collected info on other sites about the extensions, and there is some on ulitmateamiga, github won't necessarily be the place where people visit to get the download (at least in the future) so putting the wiki on there "brands" it with github forever - it adds to the fragmentation and my idea is more for user experiences than development of the extensions, there must be somewhere amos/amiga central it can go? - also they are not actually part of AMOS itself so to stay organized the wiki would probably be in a different repository, adding to the fragmentation - and the main reason is that the GitHub wiki is GitHub only, meaning that the sourcecode git repository can be moved/hosted anywhere, but the wiki pages would have to be copied manually using copy and paste - it's useful to use the wiki while working through issues but it's not the best place to store documentation - but if that's where it goes for now then so be it... are there any other opinons or options?

edit: a weird idea? - host them on an ecommerce platform and allow customer reviews?

Speaking from the relative beginner POV I'd just be happy with a few descriptions in the Ultimate Amiga extensions download section for quick reference when browsing and downloading.

I do of course support a full wiki as It'd be good to get an in depth view and maybe read some reviews/experiences/faults and other goodies. Plus the simple fact that good and up to date documentation is always welcome. ATM certain aspects of AMOS' features with regards to how it works seem quite fragmented. It's either what you get from reading the manual or help file (which doesn't cover everything) or some forbidden dark arts which you have to ask for and there's nothing worse than feeling like you're pestering people when in the noobzone. A solid reference is much more preferable with forum questions reserved for discussion and last resorts.

Brilliant! Even just knowing the slot numbers right away is a big help. Looking forward to reading the new page and what everything does.

Yes, the version on AmigaCoding.com is the most up to date version. I hope to update the one on my site (aliensrcooluk.com) sometime soon...

Sorry, one of the team members rage-quit and demolished the GitHub account's data.  Sidewinder and I are back online but the other team member has apparently gone solo.  So much for the tentative descriptions.

Sorry what happened with the GitHub page?? i noticed i suddenly wasnt in it!

The page is still using the AMOS Factory stuff, so i assume someone here still owns the organisation?

The one that is there is the second one.  All that is in it is what Sidewinder pushed from his own hard drive.  Everything else is either gone or in the culprit's personal GitHub account under a different license.
